roger.england
I've just suffered a blown head gasket in my 12/50 engined Midge. I'm having the head skimmed to ensure its flat but I don't want a ridiculously high compression ratio so need to be a bit careful as it looks like the head has been skimmed before. Can anyone tell me please the height of the 12/50 head when it left the factory?Roger
JohnD
Roger,I 'm almost sure I've advised you of this before - I have everyone else.Never, ever, skim a head without first MEASURING the chamber volumes! Esp. if "it looks as if it has been skimmed before".You can do this easily, with kit that costs a few pounds.See how to, plus why and what to do about it at: http://www.totallytriumph.net/spitfire/skimming_your_head.shtmlJOhn
roger.england
John - I'm certain you haven't advised me before because I haven't ever considered doing this before ;) I only want to have a flat face on the head - not a particularly high compression ratio. The question was asked by the company that are sorting the head out for me. They have been doing this sort of thing for years so it seemed a fair question to pose.Roger
