Checkld
Hi all, I thought I would do one of those quick and easy jobs of replacing a faulty speedo cable on my Mk3 GT6, only to find it isn't easy. Does anyone have any hints or tips they can share on getting easy access to the gearbox side of the cable as it looks like to me I have to remove the exhust. Doh!. glang
Its normally done from the inside of the car by removing the gearbox cover but I suppose could be done from underneath although as you say the access will be difficult. Isnt the gearbox mounting in the way as well?
RobPearce
You shouldn't have to touch the exhaust! Take the gearbox cover out from inside the car (H-frame out first, then carpets, possibly passenger seat...) and you'll see that you have good access to the speedo cable run from the driver's footwell. thescrapman
I think possibly isn't the cable, but the angle drive that has failed, well if you have an OD fitted. sometimes you may find a previous owner has cut an access hole in the tunnel as they had a failure before. Pete Lewis
if it has a failed angle drive they MUST have a 7/16dia washer to act as a spacer between the gearbox drive and the angle drive or you pre load the bevel gears and it fails theres a tech note about this and if you look on rimmer they invalidate any warranty if no washer is fitted Pete
