stripyt6
Well, I'm very pleased to say my car is coming home tomorrow after a mechanic friend has fitted a balanced 2ltr, with ported and flowed head etc and SU carbs. It runs like a dream and now goes how it looks! However I can't help thinking that we can probably get it running even better if we either get better needles or get the current ones modified (which I've read you can do if you're fully in the know and have a RR). So - can anyone recommend someone that can undertake such work? Preferably in the South if possible as I'm in Surrey :)Also, does anyone have an idea how much it may cost (so I can save some pennies for it!) gfiandy
I have never used them but have heard good reports of Jigsaw racing for this sort of work.http://jigsawracingservices.co.uk/Regards,Andrew

Could have changed though, just a thought,Alex
Steve.G
After fitting the 2.5 engine in my 2000 I spent a long time doing graphs of the SU needle profiles, buying a few and then driving it a lot. I got to the point where I couldn't do much else and felt like you a professional ought to be able to make it better. I took the car to a local rolling road and they didn't think they could improve it at all. Trouble is, most places won't carry replacement needles so have to resort to filing the ones you have to make the mixture better, you can only go richer and possibly change the dashpot springs. It's a shame Burlen fuel systems don't have a rolling road to do this sort of work, Janspeed is next door but not much help if you don't live that close.Another area I could improve my car is the ignition timing. I tried a few different distributors but none seemed brilliant. Time for programmable ignition perhaps !

aar0sc
Winspeed Motorsport in Guildford, Chris Window is a bit of a god with carbs!!http://winspeedmotorsport.com/(I know they're mainly Jags, but a carb's a carb, and even at Jaguar labour rates tend not to need too much time/money spent on them). stripyt6
Guildford! you're a star, I'm in Elstead 10 mins away from Guildford!! :) .. you mean for once I can find someone to work on my pride n joy that doesn't require hours of driving!! *bliss*Went for further drives in the interim, currently running the engine for 500mls before the mechanic wants the car back to replace the oil, rebalance the carbs and do a final adjust to the tappets.Iinitial pickup is MENTAL - as I guess you'd expect from a fully balanced unit, at lower revs it seems to pull really well, 2 - 3k .. but then it doesn't keep it up quite as well through the rest of the rev range as I'd possibly expect and there isn't much point pushing onwards from 5/6k. It's hard to say as I've never driven a fettled 2ltr triumph engine before so am unsure as to what power delivery characteristics to expect. But I was expecting a little more go higher up the rev range ... mmm

stripyt6
:) that's serious long range helpfullness! and very much appreciated, it's nice to be able to just pop down the road rather than have a complete mission!
