Alex
Thanks Dave for all your help dont know how I'd manage without you? ;).....Now back to my question without interuptions from the back of class :P I have both su & strombergs with the car. neilnaz
Alex can't you try SU on the front and Stromberg on the rear and see which you prefer? Is that any more helpful?Seriously though I have no idea except that people seem to go to SUs for some reason but I have no idea what, if any, benefit there is other than possible needle choice(?)Best of luck with your ruminations Alex.BTW those little lights that you fitted to your Spitfire are they Ring Polar Cruise lights? Dizzy
SU, the original and best - mainly 'cos no diaphragms (as valencia1 tried to spell).Valencia1 - I like the 92 Squadron avatar. sallyann
Stombergs every time on a 2 Litre....Lucas PI on a 2500 or second best SU HS6's..Thats my view in my experience (30 years running 6 pot Triumph's DAILY )
AlanChatterton
Agree with SallyAnn (or Dave, as he is known during business hours,.....what he calles himself after 5.30 is entirely up to him!)Strommys on a 2000SU's on a 2500

32valves
Just curious, I've always preferred SU's simply because they don't have that effin' bloody effin' bleedin' rubber diaphragm (you may surmise that I got bitten by a Stromberg as a 'child' ;))
Alex
The strombergs I've got have a sticker on them saying something about emission control is that the norm?
Greeks
Alex wrote: is that the norm?No ... this is THE normProbably 150 CDSE ... which was one of the later models. Makes them a bit more hassle to adjust (still easy to work on though).Diaphragms aren't that difficult. Just keep a spare set, and if you ever have any hassle with them check the diaphragms first.More hassle is the way the needle valve is so prone to getting stuff stuck in it and causing the bowl to flood. At least you can adjust the float though. Strombergs are also pretty compact and easy and quick to whip on and off.
Alex
I guess my biggest problem is I feel I almost understand the su after having my spit so long. The stromberg however just looks complicated.
Greeks
yeah. that's the same for me having had Strombergs first :-)
Lord Sorbington
Even I can mend Strombergs so they must be simple!Mine has the CDS versions which are adjustable from underneath - the car runs really well on them. The later ones have all sorts of weirdness going on.

Strombergs every time. Both from someone who drives both types on a daily basis so can compare back to back, and from our workshop experience. SU's keep us busy in the workshop, Strombergs less so. We also sell far more SU wearing parts in the shop/mail order than the equivalent Stromberg bits even allowing for higher percentage of cars fitted with SU's. On our own cars I like the way Strombergs hold there tune far longer than the equivalent SU's. I fiddle with the Chicane (2.5 on 150 Stroms) once every 25,000 odd miles maybe, whereas the wife's 2.5 on HS6 needs a tickle every 6 months or 8,000 miles. The Chicane has had one set of spindles and butterfly's in it's 300,000 miles, whereas I would be doing the same on the wife's car every 50,000 miles (or 3 years). Or at least I would if the HS6's were stopping on the wife's motor, but they not as we have just ditched them in favour of PI.
Alex
Thanks Dave I guess I'll be going for the strombergs then. What about the bit about emisions is that going to strangle it or will it not make a difference?
