Dazman1360
Hi all,I am replacing the front wings, plus the top front panel (in front of the bonnet) & the lower valance on a friends Stag. Given how these are constructed, access to the flanges where the wings and these panels need to be spot/plug welded together is either limited or pretty much non-existent.What is the simplest/correct way of doing this?Cheers
Richard B
On the saloons I was told that the nose section was pre assembled (wings, nose & valance) and then fitted as a package to the car. When you see how in accessible the flanges are, it makes sense.I fitted a front valance to my Stag before painting and it was a right sod to get to. Head and welding mask through the radiator surround. No engine, gearbox or radiator fitted at the time.
Dazman1360
I did suspect these were assembled off the car, logical I guess. Many thanks....
DJT
The seam between the wings and the top panel can be done in situ using a combination of traditional welding and modern epoxy glue. Line everything up, clamp from beneath, then tack weld from above. Grind these welds down, then force 2-pack vehicle body glue down into the join from above. When cured, dress the seam, apply enough body filler to cover the join and form the 'seam'.
