Best place to buy panels?

SkUG

Recommended Posts

Hello, long time no post - i've been driving my 13/60 salon for about 3 years now, and i've had a good 3 years problem free motoring!! but today my rear outrigger (which passed its last mot 7 months ago) has just given way a little bit... (split along the bottom edge) on the way home from work,  resulting in a lovely swaying action for about 4 miles!
where is the best place (read cheapest / best quality) place to buy panels lately?
i'm out of touch!

Thanks in advance

SkUG

edit : before i forget, its my daily transport - so i need a quick reply / fix :D

I have had really good experience with (in no particular order)

Canley Classics
James paddock
Rarebits4classics

However - when shopping for panels -I opt for NOS stanpart panels. Traders rarely have these, so ebay is your friend. However - for outriggers, the new ones are fine.

Chic doig does very good rear outriggers, only a few quid more than the nasty ones. Just fitted a pair, shaped as original, thicker quality etc etc.
Apart from that, fitchitts tend to be good with a lot of stuff, I think they actually manufacture a lot of stuff thats sold by all the suppliers. Saying that, many traders sell exactly the same panels!
Of course, best is genuine stuff, but rarely available these days.

Not really answering your question but I remembered this thread. You may find some help in it.

Ahh thank you, i've actually repaired replaced more or less all of the outriggers, including about 8 foot of chassis... before buying a "new" reconditioned chassis for my vitesse (before some twunt turnt it into a banana - still needs restoring... just need 3 more hours in a day!)

Thanks for the prompt replies... james paddock looks to be the cheapest so far! (trying to keep running costs to an all time low! (so far my car has cost me about £200 including purchasing... (not including the MOT's) in 3 years!)
i used to buy from sportscarsupplies, but everytime i wanted to purchase something the prices where always different to those shown on the website!

Be aware that there are some truly shocking riggers on the market. Thin and poorly shaped in many cases. As riggers come from a number of different manufacturers, it can be difficult to keep track of who's selling what. Buy on recommendation only from someone who has bought the EXACT same product.
Cheers,
Bill.

ahh yes, i've had my share of ebay outriggers.... lasted about a year... ended up spending the extra pennies in the end and just bought a recon chassis with all the trimmings :)

Thanks all
I'll try to visit more often.... kinda busy atm!
