Tom2000
I'm going to buy some superlite alloys for my 1500 and was wondering if I could run 6Jx13" if I run low profile tyres?
bodders1
low profile tyres on 13 inch rims will look a little lost in the wheel arches, and will make your speedo over-read.Why go for super-wide rims? they are more likely to aqua-plane in heavy rain. Also, with the camber changes that the rear wheels go through on a spit/herald chassis, you will find that you spend a lot of time running on the corners of the tyres rather than the flat tread.wider rims work on modern cars because the suspension design is usually much more sophisticated and the wheels do not change camber with load or bumps. Also, modern cars are generally much heavier, so the wider tyres are able to push more water out of the way.
Tom2000
OK well 5.5's it is then :) although I do have uprated suspension all round.
Alex
I'd say it would be very easy to over tyre a spitfire.I have 165's and mines very well planted,in fact almost to planted when your "playing" ;D.

mark spit
175/70s on 13" rims give the same rolling radius and fit my Spit MkIV (got 1500 long driveshafts) without issues.YoursMark
Clive
and are probably the best all-round solution. Mind you some reckon the std 155/13 are the very best, but then again they are a bit skinny. And I'm a tart so rub 185/55/15! (on 6j's) and 205/45/15 at the back, but they are a bit too wide really and catch sometimes.Clive
AJ.Lintern
I've got 6x13 Revs with 175x70 tyres - no rubbing issues.

willcolumbine
You can run 6J's on a spitfire 1500 without too many issues. I run 6J Wolfrace slot mags with 185/60 Yokohama A032R's and dont have any problems. It looks a bit crazy though - kinda like your cars on steroids! PaulB
I've got 6J R14 Minilites on a SPit 1500 with 175/65 tyres. I didn't need to recalibrate the speedo either. Although my front wheels do rub slightly on full lock, but I've also got slightly lowered suspesion. Handling is excellent though.
Clive
15's just bolt on. MGF ones, cheap as chips. 185/55 work well. BUT there is the issue of camber change, so I will be changing mine to 175/65 14 for trackdays (on maestro steel wheels) and 175/70 13 for everyday use. Trouble is 13" tyres are getting a bit harder to get hold of in specific brands etc, though the 175/70 are still easy at he moment.
