October Track Day

As MGoT are going to Goodwood on 25th October with Lotus, we will have to organise our own event for October.  I have had some initial discussions with Motor Sport Vision, owners of Cadwell, Oulton, Brands, Bedford and Snetterton and will be talking to Goodwood later this week.  This TD will be a step into new territory for CT and will involve a big financial risk to CT, so we need to make sure as many of our members can come as possible.  So I would welcome your feedback on the Forum.

What we know already is:

Dates - between 15th & 29th October.  15,18,22,25,29 preferred.

Cost - Likely to be more expensive than previous.  Could be as much as £200. (shows the value we have had with MGoT)

Payment - May need money several months up front

Exclusivity - We will probably have to share the track with another group(s)

Possible locations - Bedford, Snetterton, Goodwood.  (outside chance Cadwell, Oulton)

Noise levels - may need to be < 95Db

I need to know how many will be up for it.  Please would you put your names below.  Thanks very much.

£200 ?.... I'd consider paying that for the full Silverstone GP; but, not for any other track......

.... which, is completely academic if noise level is to be <95Db; because, I know Tara is 96Db at 4500rpm.

I guess that counts me out.

judging by the issues some of us had at Castle combe I don't think anybody with a stainless exhaust will pass the 95db noise level.  we had readings of 96-106db's in testing.

How about we contact a few track day companies and ask them for a sessioned day?  They could sell the other sessions to the public while keeping one session for us.  This would keep costs down.

I can't commit to a track day with such limiting noise levels

I may be tempted to do another track day with CT, i was more than impressed with Silverstone, the cars, the people and the atmosphere just cannot be replaced.

I did read earlier that Mallory could be a possibility with the TR Register and maybe some other Triumph/Classic clubs, that sounds very inviting indeed.

Just my little input.

Des.

This is always my concern, if I knew I could get my money back if they said the car was too loud, then it's not so bad (depending how far away the track is), but the potential high outlay then not even getting a go puts me off.

Not wishing to teach anyone to suck eggs, but the old hands were on-hand at CC and it is possible to reduce the potential of failing a noise test, by very cautiously running up to the required rpm and then holding it there, before letting it run down very slowly too. No popping on the overrun or noise heroics! :)

Not wanting to put people off doing these things, perhaps it might help if we took a broadsweep of engines and noise level tests, from our Trackdays?
1. GT6 2 litre 'go-faster' on the Phoenix 6-3-1 + Kipping twin back box = 96Db @4-4.4500rpm

2. GT6 2.5 litre "go-faster" on Phoenix 6-3-1 + Phoenix single exit + 106Db @ 4500rpm.  100Db with Keiths magic sausage!(whistle)

I agree with the principle, but don't some tracks monitor noise while you're driving too?

And even doing the above I'm don't hold much hope of passing a low noise db limit.

2000 Mk1, 2 litre, very go-faster, Witor 6-3-1 with sports system (single box) - 103.9dB

TR6, standard (I think), Phoenix 6-3-1 with sports system (single box, which is a lot quieter than the twin box system it replaced!) - 103dB. 97dB with a Merlin 'track day muffler' aka Keiths magic sausage
