North Weald Starter Experience - Friday March 11th

MGoT have invited us to their Starter Experience at North Weald on Friday March 11th.  This session is for first timers so no previous experience is essential!  Details can be found at

http://www.mgs-on-track.com/events/115/north_weald_2011-03-11.htm

The price is £55 for CT members.  You will need to login to their website before booking.  The session is run for MG0T by Lotus on Track and they do not need CT input, but depending on the number of bookings a few experienced CT trackdayers will be there.  No particular car preparation should be necessary other than roadworthiness, but I recommend reading the Track Day Intoduction Information in the Pull Downs at the top of the Forum:  Competitions >> Track Days.

Attendance is in competition with MGs and they tend to book early.  I suggest that if you want to attend please book asap.

Additional Information
This is not a track day but a Starter Experience - an event for people who want a gentle way into track day fun. It is restricted to absolute beginners or the inexperienced driver who is still not very confident. It  helps you explore your car and your confidence under the watchful eye of a performance driving instructor.

Numbers are limited to just 23 cars and the emphasis is on driving technique. Only one car is active at a time making it the safest of environments. The day begins with the high-speed bend activity. This mimics the situation of suddenly arriving at a bend when you are going too fast to get around without spinning! Of course, being able to experience a spin safely on a huge patch of tarmac is part of the fun and the experience. The instructor will encourage you to approach the bend faster and faster until you do reach this limit - then he'll teach you what to do, based on your individual reaction to the situation!

Once everyone has made some progress with this the day moves on to two coned circuits providing an opportunity to try out your new found skills and explore the capabilities of your car. All of this is great fun, but of course is designed to give you the confidence to come away from the day and book your first track day.

It is therefore for TRACK DAY FIRST TIMERS & NOVICES ONLY.

No experience is required. No helmets are required. Just you and your car.

Andy, or anyone thinking about booking, if you have any questions or want any advice please put your questions here or send me a PM.

As a reminder most of the combined knowledge of CT on track days is contained in the pull downs at the top of the Forum,

Competitions >> Trackdays.

Chriss, I'm not really a novice (although most of my experience is on the loose stuff) - but it's local to me.  So if you find you are short of takers, I would'nt mind coming along - just let me know.

Hi Mike

The website says the day  "It is restricted to absolute beginners or the inexperienced driver who is still not very confident"

Tim B commented to me at the N London Group Christmas Diner that he thought you were the latter.  What's good enough for Tim is good enough for me   ;)

I'd like us to get 5 or so participants so that when our guys are not driving CT can provide briefings on what to expect, how to prepare and how to approach the day.  That will make it a really worthwhile intro with some practical experience.

Excellent Mike (& Libby)  The more that go to this the more CT value we can put into it from experienced CT members as an addition to what Lotus give us.

Therer are only 2 places left so anyone thinking about it had better get their money out right now to be included.  We could have somthing quite special comming up later in the year and this would be a good starting point for would be Tracksters.

Guys

You should be receiving some details from MGoT soon by email telling you what to do and when.  I will follow this up with some wisdom on Track days and more on what I want to do with you over and above what Lotus do.  Please would you send me your email address by private message so that I can send you the attachments I want you to print out for the day.

Thanks very much.  Chris

Hi Tom

You are Tom Key aren't you?

You will not need to do the Starter Experience as you have already done at least 3 TDs.

Watch out for the announcement on March 15th about the CT TD later in the year.  You will have had time to get your TR6 prepared and run in.

I have still not heard anything from MGoT,  have any of you who are going?

Registration seems to be at 08:15, but there are no details about where on the airfield the event is being held.  I think access to the airfield is via the A414 harlow to Chelmsford road just after the A414 / M11 roundabout.

Other than that I know nothing.

Weather should be dry but not too hot.  Can anyone pls bring me a print copy of the information and checklist I have mailed you ?
