tiggrr1 Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 So the title says it all and I'm sure the RBRR Veterans could come up with better catagories than an RBRR virgin.Any comments welcome............good or badFire awayOf course I voted for No. 1
GT6 John Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 I'm looking forward to getting a pie at Stirling this time! The greedy guts had scoffed the lot by the time I got there last time! :'(Mind you that doesn't matter as long as there is cake at Pimperne! You need a 'looking forward to the cakes at Pimperne' option!I am definately looking forward to Pimperne. Best stop in 2006 IMO. The tea... the home made cakes... the great welcome... the hoards of interested Triumph bods not on the RBRR but there with spares and a willing attitude. Brilliant.Don't forget, by the time you get to Pimperne you've been on the road for nigh on 43 hours; you're drained, grumpy and just not in the mood for anything, and then you pull in to Pimperne. An oasis of marvellousness and bunting in a desert of despair and tiredness! :PI hope Pimperne do themselves proud again this year! ;D
AlanChatterton Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Both.Number one (of course)But, getting worried about running out of time. (engine in pieces, no suspension on, no chassis legs, no MOT.........)
Tim Bancroft Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 I Keep having early morning panic attacks!! Constantly thinking about the things I have not done yet!!!!I have one simple aim for the RBRR: The hope that everyone has a great time. As I get older I realise how important it is for people to have fun and forget about all the other c*ap in life. But yes, I'm probably at no. 1.I am also gutted that a few good friends will not be doing the event.
Alex Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Cant wait, although a bit nervous. At least with my spitfire I had a good idea on how good/bad it was mechanically, with the 2000 I'm still learning. The saloon does seem to drive well now though.Ah, I'm sure it'll be fine :)
TR Tony Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 As another RBRR virgin I have to vote for No 1 of course. Mind you No 2 sounds good as well!I don't live far from Pimperne, & my co-driver lives about 2 miles from the village hall, so looking forward to that stop on familiar territory. That's if i can stay awake ......Car prep is going OK, passed MOT last week without probs, but will need a couple of tyres before the RBRR. Worst problem to sort is a brake judder - needs new discs but having trouble finding the correct items (it's an uprated kit with non standard size discs). I did find one retailer who wanted £200 for each disc! The search continues ................
Jason Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 What car do the discs originate from? You may have to find who actually makes them and buy from source - discs aren't actually expensive if you can get close to the manufacturer
Goody Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 :( I never got any Pie! Don't know why as we amoung the first to arrive. Maby it was my greedy co-drivers last time. Maby I was tired and don't remember any pie, but I'm sure I never had any. ??) WARNING: Don't let Ash in car 114 have any RED BULL and Hersery bars this time.
GT6 John Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 Goody wrote:??) WARNING: Don't let Ash in car 114 have any RED BULL and Hersery bars this time. Red Bull.... it gives you.... wind! ;DWorks well the first can, but after this the effects are less helpful!Pro Plus is the stuff. Load up on that on night 2 (sensibly of course!) and you're good to go to the finish... when you'll have to go. Narf! :P
Tim Bancroft Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 Never understood the use of proplus, I find plentry of time for sleep!Good rest before the event is what is needed.
GT6 John Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 The problem is Tim many of us are more excited than an exitable thing on excited tablets the night before and it's hard to get a clear nights sleep! ;D
Tim Bancroft Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 Blimey, sounds like Xmas eve. used to be!!!
Caroline Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 Car passed the MOT eventually this week. But given we have to stop for 30 minutes every 30 miles for the fuel pump to cool down we could be in for a long journey. And that's just to the start! Good job I have some spare Acclaims hanging around. Am DESPERATE for a babysitter though else we'll be bringing them with us...
roger saunt Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 Take the kids Caroline i allways take mine, but i suppose one is 29 and the other 27,but according to the wife iam the biggest kid around when it comes to the RBRR!!
Caroline Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 Roger - they're 2 and 4! And the 4 year old is supposed to be at school. That said, he knows what tools are what and how to do a few basic things, so could rope him in as a mechanic. Except Acclaims don't need mechanics and the NSPCC may have something to say about strapping children into seats for 48 hours :)
AlanChatterton Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 Did the fuel pump I gave you at Hatton not cure the problem............?
Goody Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 Caroline: Might I suggust you put the kiddies in the Atlas Van. I know they will have many toys, burgers, chips, plenty of nappies to wipe up spils and a porta poty! ;D
Jason Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 The Atlas is looking doubtful, well it needs floors, sills, an engine, a gearbox, some windows, some controls, wipers, lights, an interior, brakes, an MOT - apart from that it's fine :-)
Goody Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 So you say you got a FlintstoneMobile? Me think's you and Dave should ware shoes though, much sheep dip in Scotland!
