Hey Guys

My clutch was working fine when I swapped the motor in the trump. The slave has been hanging there while I was working on it. Went rig it all up again and the pedal goes straight to the floor. Tried bleeding it but no luck. Took the pipe out the back of the slave, put my thumb over the end of it and got my mate to pump the pedal then hold it 3/4 of the way to the floor, realeased my thumb and no pressure in the pipe.

Any ideas?

Looks like I have to do the job again (properly this time!) as clutch has gone completely random.  Seems that the master cylinder has an issue as sometimes the pedal goes to the floor, sometimes it starts to work half way down and sometimes it's normal.  No fluid being lost (well, ok a tiny bit - the slave is tired too).  Clutch itself and all the mechanical bits were done earlier this year.

I have a MC seal kit, internal spring and new slave complete - it's just the remembered joys of bleeding the thing that are stopping me......  :(  The 3ºC outside temperatures with a howling northwesterly coming straight up the drive and a dose of man-flu are not helping either.  Such a wimp......  :B

Come on Nick,

I've been out all day,

you know it makes sense  ;)

;D

I was driving it daily until Thursday  :P

It does still sort of work - you just can't be certain you'll get the expected effect every time you use the clutch...... and it's getting worse fairly rapidly - or the cold is affecting the resilience of the seal.

Car is living outdoors at present as does not fit in the garage even a little bit due to other junk (non-Triumph and not strictly car related  :().

I'll deal with it tomorrow - probably  :P

I wish.....   :)

MC now rebuilt with new seals and new re-purposed Landrover slave cyl is ready to go.  Might get to it Thursday.....

Turns out the car already had an incorrect ( for PI) 7/8" cyl fitted (explaining why it works better on the bottom hole), so the Landrover one is an exact match.

Pedal return spring is ok.  Was not fitted when I got the car, but was present and easily (well, not that easily) refitted.  Works much better with it fitted! Internal spring seems good.  I did buy a new internal spring from Chris Witor, which came with an aluminium button in its narrow end for some reason.  My MC actually has a plastic button which snaps over a little pip on the end of the spool to locate the spring.  The seal kit included a replacement plastic button - which didn't fit properly so I re-used the original which does.  Also got an additional rubber seal (without central hole) and shim washer in the kit which don't appear to have a use.  I presume there are two styles of MC which use the different parts and the kit is to cover both....?

Cheers

Nick
