Restoration-a nightmare?

Recommended Posts

The light at the end of the tunnel for my Vitesse restoration was getting brighter and brighter, now someone's removed the blasted bulb!!
I stripped the doors out to derust and repaint them, getting them to hang properly afterwards was a total nightmare. But now I'm putting the quarterlights and winding mechanism back in (they're all from the same doors) and do you think I can get them to line up properly - not a chance! It's as if someone has twisted everything out of shape whilst they've been out of the doors.
What fun!

Don't Ron, this is also my nightmare, I have to paint and refit my doors prior to Churchill show on 10th June, i know they will hang like a bag of whatsit, also I just know trying to get the quarter lights in after painting will be another nightmare, I can't see how you can do it without taking most of the paint off in the process!!

You're right! Trying to put the quarterlight in without scratching the paint is ridiculous. The worst part is that you hav e to fit the outer weather seal before fitting the quarterlight and then try to get it in past the seal. It can be done, but not gently!

I believe that the seal should run the whole length of the door. And the ones currently available seem to be a generic design and thicker than the originals so that the clips don't fit very well. Put it this way, I cannot believe that it would have taken the best part of an hour per door on the production line!
