Tom2000
I know I know same question again..My seats are knackered, I can get them upholstered but I could get a set of MX5 seats for alot less..I'm 6ft 2 and have a roll bar in the car.. Will MX5 seats go in.. even if I have to remove the roll bar..?If not can someone suggest replacement seats from another car that will go in that are of similiar size to the houndstooth seats that are in there at the moment? phil866
I'm 5' 5" and have MX5 seats in a spit. I feel sorry for you tall guys as the seats are wonderfully comfy and warm. The built in head rest keeps a lot of back draught away and there is a lot of side support. However I would not want to be any higher for driving. My guess would be that MX5 seats would not suit the taller gent....hard luck ;D
GT6 Mike
TomMX5 seats will go in and give you enough room, just a bit of modifying to get them to go back far enough, you will have to take the roll bar out if you want maximum room. I will take some photos.

Tom2000
how did you get them so far back what work was involved?
GT6 Mike
Tom, you need to cut out a small section of the steel seat pan so that it clears the rear centre tunnel area by the heelboard. I will be taking one of my seats out in the next couple of weeks, I'll take some more detailed pictures and put them on my blog.
phil866
I notice that you have left the Mazda seat belt stalks in place, are you planning to use the Maxda belts as well??Cheers

CharlieB
Look like standard Securon stalks
GT6 Mike
Standard (short) Securon stalks mounted on the seat in place of the Mazda stalks.
Tom2000
so you have to modify part of the seat (not the car) to get them in?
GT6 Mike
Yes, you only need to modify the seat not the car.

GT6 Mike
I'll measure up, you only need to cut that much out if you want the seat to go back to the heelboard and keep it low.

Tim Bancroft
Gotta say I am perplexed. I quite like the std seats, have never found them to be a problem, for a 60s designed seat very good.Paul Darbyshire (Burnerboy) has set of MX5 seats in his 1500 and I think he sits too high in them. Mike's mods look a good compromise.
