Rusty99
I was wondering if someone would be so kind as to help me locate thecorrect Beige houndstooth fabric that was used on the 1977-1980triumph spitfires.I've seen the seat covers that are made by Newton Commercial and thehoundstooth fabric is a perfect match. Only thing is the beige vinylis a very bad match. Please see picture:http://home.comcast.net/~reinarson/seat.jpgIt seems that all of the suppliers like Rimmer Bros, Moss Motors,British Victoria all sell the Newton Commercial kits. I purchased aset from Moss and I was disappointed that the beige vinyl did notmatch at all as you can see in the picture. The cloth houndstooth seatpanels are a perfect match though. My spitfire only has 14,000 miles and the only part of the seat thatneeds replacement is the houndstooth seat panels. I thought I wouldtry contacting Newton Commercial to see if they would sell me a coupleof yards of their fabric and I would have a local trimmer sew in newpanels for me.The response from Newton is that they won't sell the just the fabricto a retail customer. All they offered to do is sell me another set oftheir poorly matched seat covers.I was wondering if anyone in this group knows how I could locate someof this material?Best Regards, Rusty
Jason
Gotta be honest Rusty, I can't see your problem in the pictures - the seats just look cleaner than the rest which doesn't look "dirty" just 30 years older. Have you tried asking Newtons if they would take your old covers and remake them with their houndstooth cloth? You could also try TD Fitchett for some NOS stuff but it's getting hard to find now , they are at Fitchett (Redland) Industrial EstateStation HillOakengatesTelfordShropshireTF2 9JXEnglandTel. 01952 619585 / 620434 Fax. 01952 610510
rotoflex
Unless the upholstery color changed for the later Spitfires, that's not a match for New Tan. The difference between that vinyl & New Tan door cards would be enormous.
Rusty99
The newton commercial beige vinyl is brown. The vinyl on the spitfires is more of a golden/honey color.I found a supplier with a perfect match Sierra Montana:http://home.comcast.net/~reinarson/match.jpghttp://home.comcast.net/~reinarson/sample.jpgHere's a picture with the Newton Commercial sample:http://home.comcast.net/~reinarson/newton.jpg
Rusty99
Sure it is not brown. Here's a picture of what it should look from a 1980 advertisement flyer:http://home.comcast.net/~reinarson/flyer.bmp.Apart from the steering wheel being on the wrong side that is! rotoflex
What did Triumph call the non-black interior color on the cars in those years? Is it Biscuit or still New Tan or what?New Tan looks darker & more orange-y:http://www.britauto.net/saleimages/triumph/1972tr6/1972tr6.html
