timireson
Has anyone tried an mgb seat in a mk 3 gt6??? I hear the gasps of horror!!! But need some seats for my gt6 and looking at options I know I could get the mgb out os it's winter storage ijust would like to know before stonleigh..... They seemto measure the same when I googled the size of mgb seats...Any thoughts anyone....Tim
Clive
I am certain they are significantly wider. My Dad had a MGB for a while, (I quite liked it to potter about in) and I had a spit at the same time. But you could try measuring I guess. Internet stuff can be rather unreliable with this sort of info....If you are not tall, MX5 seats are the obvious choice if you don't want to get the GT6 ones refurbed

Richard B
Have a look for some Spitfire 1500 seats with headrests, they should fit.
Gt6s
Your Gt6 will suffer a bad reaction. If you needed a transplant would you consider pig organs ?
sparky_spit
I can vouch for Spit 1500 reclining seats with headrests. Having had original Mk3 Spit seats, Mazda MX5 seats, the 1500 seats as above are the most comfortable and adjustable I've had. I re-foamed mine with Park Lane Classics foam kits and that made an enormous difference to the support they give.Quite good for sleeping in too, for long distance events. Modify them so that you can pull the headrests right out and they fully recline almost flat for sleeping in.
willows40
Mgbgt seat will not fit a spitfire, so won't fit a gt6, to wide at bottom. I have a mgbgt and when I was doing so work on it which involved removing the seat, tried it in a spitfire I had in bits at same time, it would involve major surgery to floor pan and tunnel/inner sill just to get it sitting level. The seats in a mgb are very comfy, new foams are also very reasonable priced and if fitted would look more period than Mazda seatsCheers Andy

ferny
Not all MX5 seats are the same. Some sit higher, some sit lower. Most can have a foamectomy performed which will allow you to sit lower. These are what I have in the Herald (MX5 Mk2.5) which apparently don't fit either... Mine use the Mazda runners and you do sit lower. Don't know how they're compare to Spitfire seats though.http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_odkw=mx5+2.5+seats&_sop=15&_from=R40%7CR40&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313&_nkw=mx5+2.5+seats+-belt&_sacat=0Keep in mind that different seats change the way the car feels far more than you'd initially expect. An upgrade to a modern set isn't necessarily a good one. If you're going to use the runner with the new seats keep in mind they're a lot heavier than the weedy Triumph ones as well. don cook1
I have MX5 seats in my GT6 Mk111 and you do have to tinker a bit to make them fit (forget about the speakers in the headrest - once underway the sound is lost). I'm 6' and have no problems with clearance at all. Very, very comfortable and tilt forward for rear access. They're cheap as well, advice on fitting is on the internet. These are the ones I have fitted and seem very good value.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/mazda-mx-5-seats-/261784219485?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3cf38e2f5d
Martins Stag
I've got Leather MX5 seats in my Spitfire and it probably one of the best modifications I have made to the car. But Clive it right if you are over 6'2" then thay are not ideal. But it is horses for courses!Martin
