Hi Guys

Its with much regret, that I am parting with a set of GT6 high backed seats I was intending on using for my self.

You wont come across a set of these often,

sorry to say, but I have listed them on a well known site, I didn,t want to sell them, as I know how rare they are,
but seeing as I have to, I didnt want to give them away hence a fair auction

Hi Gary

yes, lovely seats, really sad to see them go to be honest  :-(

I really dont have a clue what they are worth, guess its just what some one is willing to pay.

I am always on the look out for triumph spares, only for use on my two cars (a spitfire mk2 and GT6 mk1)

I have seen four sets of spitfire mk 1/2/3 seats sell on fleebay this month alone (my set included)

But in over four years, have never seen a set of GT6 high backs, with recliners and in this nick!!!!!

Typing this, is making me think twice as to if I should sell them at all !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :B

GENUINLY though, I hate it when people hold on to stuff they will never use.

I was going to use them, as said, but a change of plane looks like they will sit in storage for years to come, best let some one else enjoy them rather than them going to waist.

I have a set of these fitted to my Mk3 Spitfire - never seen another set! It took me years to find a drivers side frame to match the passenger side I originally had.
I think I am right in saying these high back seats were only fitted to the American spec GT6+ (GT6 Mk2) so they are rare as the proverbial rocking horse bi-product, in this country at least.
I would not be surprised if they go for really good money.

As Charlie says the High back reclining seats were only fitted to GT6+ but then only to the very last facelift (Satin black windscreen frame and one piece reversing and number plate light and metal spoked TR6 steering wheel).GT6+ in the US. This means that they were only in production/fitted for around a year, making them pretty rare. There is also a high back non reclining seat that was fitted to the non facelift US spec GT6+ . All These seats also have a different sub frame to the gt6 mk3 seats but it is common to other GT6 mk2's and possibly MK1's

I was under the impression that the GT6 seats had a perforated vinyl on the centre panels but Piero's seem to have plain vinyl. I wonder if these high back seats were ever fitted to US spitfires as  it was usual for spitfire seats to have plain vinyl and GT6 perforated.

Anyway someone is going to have to pay a fair few quid for them. I have a set of these with sub frames but they need completely re-trimming. I imported them from the states which cost a fortune in shipping!

Newton comercial lists the perforated seats (high back) BUT also this seat

http://www.newtoncomm.co.uk/cars/triumph-gt6/model-155/seats/2775-triumph-spitfire-mk4-gt6-mk3-us-spec-seat-cover-1970-1973/

There seams to be two slightly differant covers for the high back seat WITH the recliner

Very nice seats and pretty rare especially over here in blighty. I would have placed a bid on them if I hadn't recently redone my mk2 originals. They are as already mentioned off a late gt6+. The other high back recliner seats that are perforated but with vertical stitching are from early US gt6 mk3's. I broke one of these up last year that had the perforated seats. Went to a nice chap on the forum restoring a red mk3   :)

Hi Chris, I was lucky in that i know a trimmer that picked apart my originals as a patern and made all new ones at mates rates. Mk2 covers were unobtainable from newtons for a good while but just looking at their website it seems they are currently doing them. Have heard nothing but good things about their foams and covers.

Hi Jonesy,

Very useful knowing a tame trimmer.  :)

My MK2 GT6 came with a pair of rough MK3 seats with headrests. As I wanted to finish the car to take to Le Mans I had the MK3 seats re-trimmed by Newton Commercials. They did an excellent job and even trimmed a pair of headrests in perforated vinyl to match the flutes on the seats.

I wanted to fit the correct MK2 seats but also wanted headrests so the US high backs seemed like a good compromise. I managed to buy a set from the US and shipped them back to the UK (expensive!). I intend to rebuild the seats with covers and foams from Newtons and will sell the current seats to help fund the project.

Pictures below show the Re-upholstered MK3 seat prior to installing in the car and the MK2 high backs before they were shipped to the UK.

They will look the mutts nuts when refurbed and fitted to the car. Having had mine redone and covered a good few thousand miles I wish I'd kept my high back ones and recovered them to mk2 spec as the original UK mk2 seats are a pain in the arse LITERALLY !!!. Are they going in the dark blue car in your pic ? My car is black and I toyed with the idea of recovering my seats in matador red but in the end chickened out and went black ( another regret ) :)

Yes they are going in my Royal Blue car. I will stick with the black covers as they are the only ones available with the perforated vinyl. I am hoping that the proper MK2 seats will give me slightly more headroom, The seat cushion certainly looks thinner. I used to drive a MK2 GT6 as a daily driver in the  '80's and never found it uncomfortable. But that was a long time ago and I was a lot younger so probably less worried about comfort..

I have seen some really nicely trimmed seats with piping to match the colour of the car but Royal Blue against black would be a bit of a waste of time.

For anyone getting seats recovered by an upholsterer, ask them to stitch a 1/4" layer of foam rubber under the cover. It gives the pleats more 'body' and definition but doesn't make you sit any higher.

Mk3 reclining highback seats, with plain leather instead of perforated:
