alpinemauve
First attempt at started the (new) car today. Failed :(Not too downbeat though as its been at least 20 years since it even turned. So, coming straight from a separate petrol can, new battery and plugs. And fire it up.Turns well - petrol getting through, but no firing. Tried a different coil and distributor but still nothing firing. Any thoughts.Petrol then going through the twin carbs and out other side (drain or something missing?).Try again tomorrow.
smithy
Wotcher AM - there's a wunnerful (and pretty definitive) thread hereabouts someplace which, since it took a while to resolve the problem, takes you through all the many possible things to look at. Have a search for "won't start", since I think that'll help. I'll have a search too.

If you mean straight through the overflow pipe(s) that means the float chamber valves are stuck open or blocked. Most likely after 20yrs sat idle. rotoflex
Three things are needed for an engine to start:1. fuel2. spark3. compressionDisconnect a lead from a spark plug & hold it with plastic pliers at the joint between the block & head, see that a spark cracks from the wire to the block. Fuel/Spark/Compression all in the correct time sequence.[/PEDANT}

ferny
377 wrote:no one expects the CT inquisition, the five things needed areFuel/Spark/Compression /all in the correct time sequenceandOxygen.......But oxygen is part of the fuel. But what you do need is the correct mixture of the fuel.
partsaver
good point, i was thinking along the lines of fuel being the petrol and the oxygen being the air sucked in to the carbs to make the nixtureas appossed to the fuel mixture.
