  1. Whining in 1-3 implies layshaft bearings, or main shaft tip bearing perhaps. anything untoward stuck on the magnetic drain plug?
  2. Pete, it is possible to get very secure, dry, heated, and totally free car storage in London! I will send you a photo when I get to work. 🙂
  3. No one would tolerate being unable to drive a failed car away from a testing station, as it would be a captive market for them and removable of choice of repairer for you. Unless you can get a trailer and suitable tow vehicle or beaver tail, And with the weight and size of modern cars, that ain’t going to be cheap. But If it is deemed dangerous, you ain’t driving it. That is what the rules say.
  4. You won’t be driving a “dangerous” car as you are prevented from driving it away from the test station as per the DVSA manuals. It is now much harder to fail an MOT since the rules were extensively revamped. they are currently consulting on more changes, including 4 years to first test again.
  5. Tim, Do we know if the gentleman from Exeter has been told why he has a dog called Derek?
  6. That has been off the road a long time! We love a photo, so please post some if you can, and where in the country are you? Cheers Colin
  7. As long as the car has only a “major” fail you can keep driving the vehicle if if still has time to run on previous certificate. A “minor” or “advisory” will not usually result in a fail. You can go to and from a pre-booked test unless the fail was “dangerous” All from the DVSA website Only anomaly I can see is if you fail the first test on a historic where it was not tested before. having failed, you can not use it until it passes as no previous pass is in place.
  8. I am guessing that is the same John Bonnett that produced a very nice body for a GT6 (Spitfire?)
  9. When I manage to get my Herald estate back together, hopefully for 2025, it will have been 42 years off the road. Not in my ownership all that time I may add.
  10. The Sprint is the car Chris bought for it in 2021, so I am not the only one to take my time. And....... the Mk2 2000 was purchased for it with a month to go, fully recommissioned and behaved faultlessly. I won’t comment on the other 2, except, maybe next time. 😞
  11. The hood is fitted very poorly, if just done it ought to be going back. bonnet needs adjusting hopefully. Same with door rear suspension either just need driving to settle it, or it was all tightened up with car in the air and that is wrong way. To say it is an old car and that Is normal to accept issues is not right.
  12. I have no idea what my car looks like! I really ought to go and have a look. It is yellow and Dolomite shaped, thatcI do know. Good luck in the 1300fwd Dave. BTDT. 😀
  13. Looks like it is topping out at about 110. I was reminded that I had forgotten at 19:30, jumped on and only a couple of extra entries. need not have panicked and done it on my phone, which is hard work for someone my age. 😞 I reckon it will be under 100 starters come October.
  14. First 2 seem to be Facelift cars such as 2.5S, with second hands that have faded differently, third one looks like PFL Mk2 2.5PI
  15. There is a major difference between having a car restored and getting an MOT on a car. you only want the latter. It will need to be a pukka one, as there is a chance it will need to be inspected if the DVLA perceive the plate has value.
  16. Oh for a bit of punctuation...... The only 1300 Spitfire blocks with camshaft bearings, are the FD ones, the 1300TC fwd blocks also have them, as well as later FC blocks fitted to some Mk2 Spitfires. 🙂
  17. I think an entry is on the way from Essex.
  18. Only FD 1300 Spitfire blocks take bearings. And the FWD equivalent.
  19. No they won’t. what engine?
  20. Will sort out a set and check them over, in case.
  21. It should be quite possible to get it back on the road for less than the plate is worth I would have thought. But whatever you do, do NOT contact them in advance in any way what-so-ever. There lies loads of pain.
