  1. East Sussex here. Got a Spitfire, Vitesse and Dolomite. Just about every variety of post 60s Triumph turn up to the meeting (which is a joint Triumph club effort)
  2. Link to the "other" ferry thread
  3. The total post size cannot exceed 48 mb, so if adding several pics to one post that can be an issue
  4. The hosting company place restrictions on image sizes. The solution is to resize then post.
  5. It is easy to take apart. With a grinder and cutting disc. 3D printing may not be ideal as (from experience) it isn't as tough as orginal parts. I can have a look and see if I have a non-od gearstick in the garage. I should be able to look later today.
  6. I thinkl you are correct, the spring and plastic domed washer must be put on prior to the anti-vibration rubber "bit" I think a replacement gearstick is your best bet. Unless you fancy cutting the rubber section out, and sourcing an alternative plastic/metal washer. A 3 rail one ,ay work, or possibly from the big saloon gearbox. But would need careful checking first.
  7. Simpler solution if you don't have a puller is to leave the nut on the column, but only a few turns so it is level with the top of the column. Then hammer in one hand, use a knee and other hand to pull the wheel towards you. Then a wack on the column and the wheel releases. Undo nut, all done.
  8. A few of us are doing newhaven-dieppe 09.30 out and DFDS dunkirk/dover 16.00 return Total cost was £214, and yes, a 4hr crossing out, but dieppe to rouen is only an hour, and better still newhaven is 30 mins from home. So saves us about 2 1/2hrs driving time (on the basis we will be doing plenty the following few days)
  9. So not just the UK where suppliers are disappearing. Not good at all. Hopefully an alternative supplier can be found.

The parts book is your friend. And there is a system to decode the part numbers to actual sizes https://vitessesteve.blogspot.com/2015/10/how-to-identify-those-nuts-and-bolts-etc.html

The usual suppliers sell kits for (eg) front suspension, rear etc etc. I have found reusing bolts is fine once inspected and a minute on the wire wheel of my bench grinder. Obviously some need changing, but not many and it saves a fortune. Bags of nuts and washers are available either from Namrick in Hove or your favorite online supplier. If interested, I do have some nut/bolt packs, possibly covering most of a car. They are all still bagged from the supplier, and are proper zinc plated. Not stainless for the reasons pointed out by John.
  12. The art of compromise! We moved house 11 years ago, almost accidentally. But we happened to see a corner plot house close to where we lived that had potential. First thing we did was build a decent sized garage. And level the garden (200 tonnes of chalk went via grab lorries)

  14. Any workshops etc being sold will have been used commercially, it would be extremely rare to find one that has not. Your best bet is a "domestic" garage, bigger the better. But again most do not have water/electricity. But a decent sized battery and a solar panel should help that situation.
  15. Safely arrived at the hotel. Just need to hand it on to Darren&Wendy
  16. It depends what quality of finish you are looking for. So why not try it on some internal panels and see how it works out? There are some downsides. It does not polish well (unless things have changed in the last decade) and to respay again would require a few years for that to harden, then 2K primer, or an isolator coat, making prep more difficult. It would also affect resale value (if that matters to you) As you say, a pro respray is not a cheap thing to have done.
  17. Nope, stags use the same pump as dolomite/tr7. It could be an "alternative" external pump. I think there was one that was used from a Ford, but never seen one. Thesedays the electric pumps are the go to alternative.
  18. When I installed lap belts in my Vitesse convertible (same body) I had a central bolt positioned at the bottom of the rear edge of the seat base, or a smidge behind/up. Plenty of spring clearance. At the sides I mounted onto the inner wheel arches. A little up from the join of the seat pan and the spring tunnel. Obviously large reinforcing washers were used in all positions. My daughters spent many hours strapped into kiddie seats and then on booster cushions, then when bigger sat on the back seat, always with those lapbelts on.
  19. Indeed you can. But it is in the "membership and shop" section (hover!), then "My Membership Details"
  20. I believe the distributor cap is top entry on a herald, should look like I like angled fittings at the cap end, and straight at the plug ends. The king lead straight at coil end, angled at distributor.. As for supplier, I like the stuff from Mr Retroleads. 8mm leads and choose your colour.
  21. The car is not mine, but a Club member. I am posting on behalf of them. Hopefully news will spread and the car will be found. In a similar theme, the Vitesse I inherited was stolen from the previous owner and was missing for some time. There was an international plea put out, and teh car was eventually spotted parked up in London. It still has the dent where the scroat levered the locking fuel cap off. (this was 30 years ago, there are still some of the photocopied leaflets/posters with the car)
  22. Mallard Stag, stolen from garage Leigh-on-sea, Essex sometime between 16-23rd Feb. Reg Number PGC 557K The Stag has got a mesh wind deflector with a Stag motif embossed. Any information either reply here or contact me by PM.
