  1. A bit late - but here’s the result, snapped outside the church! Edited to re-add photo - apparently the original 8mb was too much, so apologies for the pixels!
  2. Hi All, I'm getting married in two weeks, and will be using my Spitfire 1500 to drive my new wife back from the wedding. Does anyone have any suggestions for decorating it for the day, beyond the usual strip of ribbon from the nose to the doors (which will of course fall off every time we open a door!). Cheers, Aaron
  3. No lowering block, so I guess it must be the spring. I suppose 40 years and 100,000+ miles have taken their toll! Rimmers have one for £111, does anyone have any thoughts on that?
  4. I'm recommissioning my Spitfire after being hidden away due to the lockdown and a lack of cash to look after it, and the main job after the brakes is sorting the rear suspension out. It's on the original spring, and about 7 years ago I replaced the original (or at least very old) shock absorbers with new original style ones - which was a mistake as they're rubbish. The car now sits very low at the rear, and as I've moved to Wales and live on a steep, cobbled street, it needs to be higher. Any suggestions for what to do, allowing for my student budget? Cheers, Aaron
  5. My Spitfire is being low-loaded to a mate's next week for some remedial work and an MOT after over a year off the road - cheers covid. Luckily a friend has just bought a garage down the road, so I'm going to rent that off him to store the Spit in once it's functional again, and can finally enjoy it in Wales!
  6. I would have been a fairly young entrant in 2012 at 18, but I couldn't get insurance for more than 1500 miles!!
  7. My Spit has KumHo (teehee) Solos on, 155/80 R13, that size is still available and quite cheaply too, I was offered unbranded things from about £20+, and Michelins for over £70, and I think the Kumhos (pahaha) were about £38. Really good, I bought another two for the back soon after the first pair.
  8. Your tool is not as impressive as I had imagined.

    Head gasket

Thanks Pete, they all look normal! I found an old-school engine shop, who skimmed the slightly bowed head for me: Nice and shiny now! Lapped the valves in, had a lovely time doing it under the watchful eye of my mate James, and it all went swimmingly until we found a crack in the exhaust port of the 4th (Rearmost) cylinder... :( Decided that we may as well go on with it, as it'll still be far better than how it was, but I will speed up my planned replacement engine (Whose valves are now in this head, as quite a few of the 1300's valves were cracked).

    Head gasket

Ah! So if there's already a tab, it takes a tabbed gasket, and if not it doesn't - are there just two basic Spitfire gaskets then?

    Head gasket

Need to change my Spit's head gasket, the engine is "DH60***HE" (can't remember the number in between). This is my spare headgasket: Will it fit? Thanks, Aa

    Spitfire seats

thescrapman wrote:I have 3 1500 passenger seats if anyone is interested. Good frames, so-so covers and foams. Want very little, can be delivered to Stoneleigh (for a few pennies more as they will take up vaulable spares space...... :-) ) Cheers Colin He asked first, but I'll have the third please :) (I'm unlikely to get to Stoneleigh, but I'll try and get to you at some point/use the CT pony express).
