  1. I sympathise with those feeling old. I'm 75 ; my brain tells me I'm still 27 but after a couple of hours crawling over or under any of our cars my body tells me it feels like 90. My wife keeps telling me I'm too old for this classic car game! Use it or lose it! Cheers, Dave.
  2. I think the catches are a push fit on the glass so can be removed. Don't know about re-chroming. Cheers, Dave.
  3. Hi Glang. Personal choice because I later swapped out my 1296cc for a 1500 Spitfire engine so no need for any further mods. Cheers, Dave
  4. Fit the 1500 flywheel and clutch. Spacers are needed in the fly wheel mounting holes so that the smaller original bolts can be used. Doing this means that the larger 7 1/4" clutch can be used and it has the correct number of splines to match the J type input shaft. Spacers can be obtained from Canley Classics or Rimmers, I believe.
  5. On my Heralds and Vitesses all tunnel fixing screws have been fitted from inside the car. I know what the Haynes manual says but I've never found it to be the case. Cheers, Dave.
  6. Hi Simon. I'm sure I have a pair of Spitfire long driveshafts complete with vertical links if that's any good to you. I'm in Staffordshire Cheers, Dave.
  7. When I started riding a Triumph Tiger Cub back in 1964 petrol was about half a crown a gallon, so I could get 8 gallons for £1...Oh well..
  8. I did the same to get a half inch washer out of my Vitesse's sump. I was trying to set the distributor drive tolerance at the time...
  9. I have M1144 pads and a brake servo on my 13/60. She stops...even from cold there's a good "bite".
  10. Baines DX3 are the correct profile, I believe. Cheers, Dave.
  11. The TSSC shop now sell distributors. Electronic or points, with or without tacho drive.
  12. Sorry folks...my faulty memory. I have a 1500 box in my 13/60 and it is indeed an inch longer , but you are right, the mark 4 box is the same length as a Herald box.
  13. Worn or loose diff mountings, maybe?
  14. I'm not sure about the gearbox length, but I am about needing a larger flange. If you get a new prop it will most likely have a sliding joint at the rear. This gives you more leeway in fitting it. Cheers, Dave.
  15. The Mark4 Spitfire box is all synchro, unlike the Herald box. I believe it is about 1 inch longer than the Herald set up so a shorter prop is needed, and you will definitely need a larger front flange on the propshaft. Canley classics can provide the prop ( at a price! ). Try Steve Morris at Triumph Spitfire Spares; he may still have the appropriate propshaft that I gave him months ago!. Cheers, Dave.
  16. Were any of the Spitfire models fitted with ballast resistor systems? The symptoms, firing then dying when key released is what happens when a ballasted system fails. Just a thought, Dave.
  17. In a 1969 13/60 you will have a diaphragm clutch. Cheers, Dave.
  18. Yes, belts come in different lengths. The belt length is often incorporated into the belt reference number, in millimetres eg a reference containing 1018 is a belt length 1.018 metres. Hope this helps.
  19. If you search ebay for rotoflex bearing shim, you'll find his stuff ( about 5 different sizes of shims) Cheers, Dave.
  20. Canley Classics Technical Archive tells you how to set up the bearing clearances, and spacers are available from a guy in Yorkshire, whose name I have forgotten! Found him. RB Mobile classics, Richard on 0776 354449. Cheers, Dave.
  21. I,ve been using Automec silicone fluid for about 3 years without any problems.
  22. However, to get back to the thread, my 13/60 has a servo fitted where the battery used to be, and the battery is in the boot, which makes it easy to fit and get to a battery isolator as a security device.
