Having changed dozens of rear drive shafts on saloons and Stags I know that, on the lift in my garage, it's a simple operation. But at midnight, in the dark, in a fuel station forecourt, tired and cold - and angry because it was a new, reconditioned shaft that failed - it's not so simple.

Nuala's and my DNF in 2021 was due to a failed rear wheel bearing in a new hub on the Stag. Even if we'd carried a spare rear hub, I don't think I'd have wished to change it at midnight at Gledrid. There are limits!

Core plug gone with deep puddle

I'm sorry to hear your fate but I'd be inclined to call it a day and check the car over thoroughly before further driving, you never know what else could have become mis-aligned. Richard -
This has to be the bravest restoration I've ever seen. Fair play to you!!

RBRR Control Marshals required
mole42 replied to Tim Bancroft's topic in Round Britain Reliability Run (RBRR)
Having withdrawn Team Nuala Dowie Memorial, I’m available to marshal - I’m happy to travel. Please let me know if I can help. Richard -
Unfortunately there isn't enough time to complete the rebuild and shakedown the car before the event, so I've had to withdraw.

RBRR Admin - are you waiting for me to reply to you?
mole42 replied to Jason's topic in Round Britain Reliability Run (RBRR)
There’s nothing worse than a communications problem leading up to a major event - well done for braving it though! -
Team “Nuala Dowie Memorial” has a vacancy for a co-driver for the RBRR. I’d prefer someone who’s done it before, who is happy to drive my Stag, maybe an ex-Police driver? There’ll never be another Nuala but a rally driver would possibly be ideal although, as I told Nuala many times, it’s not a competition….. Interested? Let’s have a chat. Richard

Show your entered car!
mole42 replied to Tim Bancroft's topic in Round Britain Reliability Run (RBRR)
Team “Nuala Dowie Memorial” have got an entry. Now I need to finish the car and find a suitable Co-driver. -
What have you done recently or are planning to do soon to your Triumph?
mole42 replied to Tim Bancroft's topic in General
Delivered Mabel, my lovely Stag, stripped and ready for her 50th Birthday facelift to the restorers in Oswestry. Here we are loading up: -
A fabulous tribute to and send-off for Nuala today. Three Triumphs in convoy with the hearse to Carlisle Crematorium, then a beautiful service in St. Andrews Church, there was standing room only, followed by tea and cakes at the village hall. There were many tears in Carlisle and tears and laughter in Borrowdale. Farewell, Nuala, may your Triumph always get you there ahead of the class. I’ll miss you. Richard

Continued stripping Mabel prior to her holiday in Oswestry. All the trim, lights, glass is off and the engine is nearly out…… -
This from another site: "Arrangements for Nuala Dowies funeral have been confirmed and the family would love as many cars as possible to form a convoy to accompany her on her last trip. Tuesday 16th August. Leaving Keswick at 9.20am, travelling via Bothel to Carlisle Crematorium for a PRIVATE FAMILY SERVICE. Then on to a Thanksgiving at Borrowdale church. Please wear bright clothes."

All sorted thanks to a fellow member of SOC woh has access to a beaver tail - we're travelling North on August 27th.... Thanks Wendy, Richard

I've got my train tickets, I'm assured that all is well with travel.
-
Thanks Jim, that'd be good. Although I'm seeing there's planned disruption to the rail network next week, maybe I'll have to drive after all. Watch this space!
-
Towing dolly is okay, I've used them before for long-distance work and the stripped car+dolly shouldn't exceed 750kg, but where to find one?
-
I'll be there. I'm taking the train on Monday, staying in Keswick overnight.
-
Unfortunately, they no longer do trailer hire. 😞 All the best, Richard
-
Does anyone know where I can rent a car trailer, preferably close to Bristol? I need to transport Mabel to the bodyshop, she's on wheels but has no engine. Mrs. Google isn't helping me today! Richard

Here's Nuala working hard at the wheel of her snotty green Spitfire on the HERO Challenge - I am in the navigators seat....

I will miss my friend Nuala. After successfully co-driving the C2C we were preparing to storm the 10CR in the project car..... Here is Nuala on form on the 2021 Tour of Cheshire with me in the navigators seat:

Rail strike! Can anyone offer me a lift to Porthmadog?
mole42 replied to mole42's topic in Coast 2 Coast Run (C2C)
Thanks once again for a positive response, but I did find that the railways are running on Friday, so I've booked tickets and pray that things work out. -
Rail strike! Can anyone offer me a lift to Porthmadog?
mole42 replied to mole42's topic in Coast 2 Coast Run (C2C)
Unfortunately my lift has had to withdraw from the event so I'm now begging for a lift again from the Bristol area to Porthmadog either Friday or Saturday. Can anyone help? A tankful of fuel is on offer!! Best, Richard
