    Dash Veneer

I had a go at re-veneering my 13/60 dash (glued on, not ironed) and spent a great deal of time of removing old, sanding, glueing, carefully forming the instrument holes, staining and ‘varnishing’ - to cut a long story short: it slightly rippled but enough to spoil the effect. In the end I had it re-done by a professional boat builder who make luxury timber speed boats. Cost a few hundred pounds but excellent job, you do get what you pay for!

    Fascia removal

Hi my main problem is to remove the four knobs from the centre section. I know the theory of pushing in the sprung metal stud then pulling the switch knob off, but they are not shifting. I have given each of them a good spray with WD40 in that area and left to soak for a couple of days, but no luck, having been there for over 50 years. I am pushing in the studs with considerable force, it seems that a grip is needed to push in the stud and pull away at the same time. Has anyone had the same problem and found a way to overcome it? Thanks

    Fascia removal

Thanks Rod. I have since pulled the two main gauges through the fascia, the bezels were gummed in over age. Regardless of colour, I have made a note of where each wire was connected so hopefully will go back in the right order. The two connections I could not remove are to the oil pressure lamp and the battery charging lamp.

    Fascia removal

Hi I am currently trying to remove the fascia on my 13/60 to replace the veneer. A few queries if anybody can advise please. On the fuel and temperature gauge, there are two electrical connections that I cannot remove, they seem to be ‘sprung’ but no obvious way of removing them. Looking from behind the dash, the wire to the left hand connection is green/ purple, the right hand connection is blue/white - neither of these colour combos seem to relate to the Haynes manual. Does the bezel of that gauge (and the speedo bezel) have to be unscrewed or does the whole assembly come forwards through the fascia? Neither seems to want to happen, but I do not want to force anything until the correct method is known. One last question - the knobs on the central five controls have push pins on their sides, but even when the pins are fully(?) pushed in, the knobs cannot be pulled away - again, not wanting to force anything until I know the correct method. Grateful for any guidance, thanks

    Door window seals

Thanks Rob, I was quickly coming to that conclusion, just need to find some new clips! I was thinking of one bodge solution of ‘glueing’ them possibly, if the right adhesive could be identified to reliably stick the rubber onto the metal door. I will exhaust the alternative clips first though.

    Door window seals

Hi i am replacing the waist window rubber seals on the inner and outer sides of the doors. The inner seals were quite straightforward but the outer ones are a problem. I have bought from Rimmers the outer seals and the clips that go with those seals but the clips do not appear to be compatible. I understand that there may need to be some “modifications” made, but even doing that to the seal and the clips it still does not work. I was wondering if anyone else has a solution to this please? I have seen a few YouTube clips but these do not seem to help. Thank you
  7. Hi. My 13/60 has been difficult to start which is largely solved now by draining and flushing the tank and fuel lines, replacing fuel filter and cleaning the carb out. Now the issue is that the engine dies when running along, on a warm engine, briefly overcome by a quick blip of the choke, but then dies anyway. Have set the Stromberg carb best I can for tickover speed etc - would a new or refurb carb help? The fuel pump provides flow but not sure at what pressure. Has anyone else had similar problems?
  8. Thank you for your responses. I am taking delivery of the car soon, so will get some more details and determine where the fixings are.
  9. Hi I have been looking at a '68 13/60 with a view to buying and noted two pairs of holes on each side of the 'vertical' part of the boot lid. As the boot lid has to be propped up with a length of wood, I am guessing it may be part of that mechanism that is missing? Looking at pictures of similar Heralds, there appears to be four bolts in those holes. Could anyone confirm please?
