  1. Nothing wrong with a 1147 engine once the head flowed, a decent cam and a DCOE or DHLA - may be an easier and cheaper option?
  2. Yep hard to find and quite big by todays standard but look very cool...I've a momo boss and prototipo put aside for trips - a bit smaller and softer but can't beat the formula for looks.
  3. Textured finish? I had my outside done in crackle black - looks great.
  4. Stunning Nick - you must be really pleased!  Paul
  5. Thanks guys - much appreciated a 4.11 it'll stay then.
  6. Hi all, I've a Mk2 Spitfire with O/D and 4.11 diff.  I've also a 3.89 diff tucked away and as swapping diffs is a nightmare it's easier to ask than swap them over and try.  I'm not confident the 1147 engine will have the torque to benefit from a 3.89 diff. Does anyone have any experience? Thanks
  7. Hi - I can recommend Wurth gravel throw - resistant to acids etc, water wash up and paintable - spray on with a schutz gun.   I bought a Wurth gun as did the Spitty - underneath, firewall, underbonnet and also 'tubbed' inside. https://eshop.wuerth.de/Comple.....1401.cgid/en/US/EUR/ Paul
  8. Jigsaw do uprated shafts - don't know how much thicker, price or if they still use needle rollers direct onto the shaft. http://www.jigsawracingservices.co.uk/suspension.htm Another option from the States - with nice chunky sleeved bearings - but pricey: http://www.chequeredflagracing.net/Custom_Parts.php Paul
  9. Hi Dirk - Type 14's are a straight swap.  Paul
  10. Hi Dirk - Type 14's are a straight swap.  Paul
  11. I used Brunox which is a rust converter, inhibitor and epoxy primer all in one then Wurth stoneguard - resistant to almost everything, paintable and best of all water clean up.
  12. The only problem with the conversion is the diff axle flanges which have become like hen's teeth in these days of CV's and even if you find some they'll need to be spaced out an inch or so either side as the diff is narrower. Also as means welding such a critical component it is likely to come under scrutiny.  Speaking from experience I'd keep away from the LSD version as this type will need to be 'backed off' quite a bit by a dff specialist for the less bhp and/or torque and moreso with a Spitfire/Herald than a Vitesse/GT6 - costs a lot.  I'd stick with a good std diff.  I thnk you can also use the diff head from a Morris Marina as an option but pretty thin on the ground now.

    New Engine

Hi - are you going up a pipe diameter at the same time as remaking for the extra oomph you'll be putting out?
