  1. Borgwards are beautiful cars. They imported them to New Zealand and I recall seeing the coupes as an enthusiast who collected them lived about 20 minutes away. Also a work colleague owned an estate I have owned Landrovers and my parents owned a 1954 SWB but what is the 4wd truck in your photos. Good luck with your Vitesse.
  2. Hi Lotus54. There are at least 2 versions of the 1600, one with Solex carbs and rated output of 70hp and those with Stromberg carbs with an unofficial 85hp. I own a 65 1600 saloon which has the later Strombergs. The 1600 is a sweet engine that can be tuned to decent amount of reliable power, its all about the breathing. Pete Lewis is the man with the 1600 knowledge but I do not know if he frequents this forum. A lot of Mk1 2000 ancillaries will fit the 1600 but if swapping inlet manifolds from a saloon remember the saloon engine is canted over on an angle and the inlet is cast to counter that angle. For parts I nearly always Canleys As has been mentioned above Vitesse Steve has a fantastic site that has copies of Triumph manuals. http://vitessesteve.co.uk/ I have a spare short block but whether it will turn is doubtful and I have a NOS bare cylinder head. Keeping then as just in case as these are becoming the rare Vitesse even though it was the most built model. I am in New Zealand

I have one similar to the one AndyTR mentions. http://www.kelston.nz/Scissor-Lift.php I fitted a pair of castors to the end without wheels so I can easily pull it out with out using the tow/lift attachment on the pump trolley. It is to wide to put under the Vitesse length ways so it goes sideways. The car is on wheel jacks so its get pulled out from the wall. As the scissor lift lives under the Vitesse it gets pulled out the same amount. Lifting arms with lift pads get swung out to pick up my preferred lifting points which are where the bulkhead outriggers meet the chassis and where the rear outrigger in front of the rear wheels meets the chassis. One push of the button and it is up to at least 1.2m from the floor. With using it sideways I have not found a mechanical part of the car I cannot work on though. Diff is clear and as the gearbox comes out from inside it is not impeded, can even drain the gearbox and od while on the hoist. I fitted quick release hose couplings to mine so I can remove the pump from the system if it gets in the way or when stored. Adrian
  4. Front uprights are different so will need to be swapped over as stub axle on Vitesse is bigger diameter. Adrian

    You dont say what Vitesse you have. I have fitted a big saloon plastic fan to my '6' replacing the metal one that was original. It has a few more blades and is lighter. As the car isnt running I cant comment on its abilities. Also google Honda Civic radiator in Triumph Vitesse.   Adrian
  6. I ended up getting a 75a A127 style alternator and starter solenoid from Bowers. Next question is how long is the bracket from the alternator to the waterpump housing? I am thinking of using a turnbuckle setup as it will look good Adrian
  7. I am looking at getting a new alternator for the 6 and while cruising Ebay came across these alternators from Bad Boy Classics. Now I will assume that they are most likely a 3rd world made copy of a Lucas 18 unit which will be fine as long as they have a good reputation. Using Youshop I can land one in NZ for under $200.     Thanks for that Nick My trigger wheel is just larger than the harmonic balancer so I will need to move my timing pointer. I know mounting it on the back might mean a slight amount of movement in timing but I am hoping it will be minor due to the inherent smoothness of the Triumph 6. Anyway it has to be better than the distributor. Adrian

    Megajolt

    Afternoon During the slooooooow rebuild of my 6 I am fitting a megajolt system for the ignition. I am mounting the trigger wheel behind the front pulley to keep it out of the way. When I look at photos of where people mount there crank sensor they all seem to be on brackets bolted to the chain cover fixings Would it not be neater to weld a bracket onto the timing chain cover? Is there any reason why I cannot do this? The timing pointer on the cover will be coming off as it will foul the trigger wheel. Adrian
  11. Adhesive? A lot of current vehicles now bond dissimilar materials in the construction of the body. Modern glues are incredibly strong and I believe some are UV cured plus have the advantage of no heat so panel prep wont be disturbed. I have no idea of what type of adhesive. Adrian
  12. Yes. Swing spring Spitfires and GT6 had a larger bar. Therefore a car that has been converted to swing spring should have these. 11/16 (17.5mm) id standard 7/8 (22mm) id swing spring Adrian

    Door Glass

    Finally got round to fitting the passenger window today. Started out gluing insulation to the inside of the outer doorskin which is not easy with the door mechanicals in place. Got the window fitted and feeling right chuffed with myself. Except I had no right to be. Wind the window up and all good but lower the window and it pulls itself out of the window channel on the back of the quarterlight. A brief burst of head scratching revealed I had bonded the window lifter? on the wrong way round. It should be short end to the rear so the levers can travel fully in the slots, I had long end to rear so the levers hit the end of the slot and pushed the window backwards. ---(      )--------(      )------ Cut the window out of the channel, turn the lifter around and start again Yes I had it the right way round in respect of the clips and channel but luckily the glass is flat so it can be flipped Adrian
