  1. As I've now decided to change direction with the Spitfire it's going to be used as a donor to kit it into something different, I'll have various parts going on eBay but thought I'd offer them here first. Open to sensible offers. Parts will include Hardtop - small repair required to rear window channel - currently bare metal Both doors - dusted with primer Boot lid - primed and half attempt at filled for 2 dents in bottom corners Bonnet, solid and solid on the nose. Could do with 1 new headlight surround and has a small amount of filler in 1 arch. 50p size - bare metal There will be other bits but can't think at the moment I'm located in Bishop Auckland
  2. Thanks, I thought it was terribly high but I think that's more because I'm in the garage. There is no whistle but and air leak did cross my mind. The gaskets are all back (new) however they were put on dry. Do you suggest any sort of sealant with them? What is the best way to test for an air leak? Also do you think the fact its currently only going with a tiny bit of easy start is just it being stubborn due to the temperature and being stood? It has new fuel. As I mentioned it does run once it gets going so I was thinking it might just be being stubborn more than anything
  3. I've finally got the Spitfire started again, but to get it to start I need to have full choke and also use a touch of Easi-start, this allows it to fire and tick over but it revs terribly high and goes mental. If I take the choke all off the engine immediately dies. More throttle with the choke out just makes the engine rev higher I'm hoping to get it started so that I can then set the timing correctly etc.  Currently the carb's are set to 12 flats out which I read was somewhere near for a good start.   Any help to this high reving would be appriciated
  4. So I've done a bit more digging, hopefully you can help Rob, or someone can.   From the points on the dizzy is connected to the bottom right (passenger side) of the coil   The 'phantom' unknown wire is solid green and cutting back a bit further up the loom it looks like its pretty standard or been cut in well so it can't be seen!     I've also noted the green and brown and white and brown which I believe go to the reverse switch from memory and looking at the connector   Any help would be great!
  5. Thanks, for the help, turns out I used the photos without the dots on!   The correct photo is below
  6. Over Christmas I want to get the Spitfire running, it turns over and was running before I moved the car home about 6 months ago, in that time I've messed with the wiring and just cant remember how it goes!   Coming from the ignition coil I have the wire (shown between the purple dots) connected to the dizzy.  Granter its only twisted for now because I didn't want to spade it until I checked. My question that is stumping me is what is the spare spade shown between the red dots?   Also,   when I got the head done years ago the garage put the studs back in the wrong way (short ones at the back) so the lifting eye wont go on,  I'm going to change these back to how they should be but wanted to check I can do this with a stud extractor tool while the head is on and wanted to check, are there reverse thread or normal?   thanks
  7. Could you measure the lengths of each spring type to help identify mine
  8. Thanks for all the help.  Looks like its going to be a 063
  9. Thanks, does the 067 fit okay for the length with it being quite a bit bigger than the 038?
  10. Apologies that this is coming up, I have done the search of both here and generally and there seems to be so many different results. I am looking to purchase a battery for my Spit 1500 however cannot work out which one.  The answers all have it as a minimum 40Ah with 330cca but the sizes range from 024, 025 (most likely) however speaking to the local motor factors based on my reg, they say a 038 35Ah.   Can anyone give me a definitive size?
  11. Thanks, Copper it is then and I'll go for the larger diameter
  12. I will hopefully soon be fitting the fuel pipe (tank to carb) to my Spit however I've scrapped the old one. I am wondering, am I better fitting copper as original or is braided the way to go? Also, could someone let me know the correct diameter. I have seen both 1/4 and 5/16 listed. Thanks
  13. Out of interest, what have you torqued the caliper bolts up to?
  14. I saw these and was surprised a company hasnt bought them to re-produce the full inner wing as Im not sure anyone still makes the full piece?
  15. Thanks for the heads up guys it's got alloy mounts going on so I'll make sure it's held in place
  16. Just currently tidying up my steering Rack and I've come across a hole in what seems to be the outer tube at the opposite end to the steering knuckle fitting. It has a little plastic plug which just seems to be pushed in but nothing to really hold it there. I'm just wondering, what is the hole, how do I make sure the plug stays in place and what do I have to do with it for maintenance?
  17. What thickness did you make it from?
  18. Chambers

    Bumpers

I'd be really interested but sadly its too far to travel.  Would you consider couriering them for cost?
  19. I have a pair of 1500 seats, passengers is in not bad condition, drivers has a rip and to be fair seen better days. Only problem is I'm all the way up in Darlington
  20. I've just done these so can tell you you are right.  I got mine out by shear butchery, burn as much as possible of the rubber out so the inner sleve comes out, then when you are somewhere near use a hacksaw blade to cut through the outer sleeve, when this goes and you will feel it, you can simply fold the outer sleeve and it will come out with a bit of force. To put the new ones in I slightly shamffered the edge of the new ones, only very lightly though, then its a case of a big washer on a long bolt, then the bush, then through the diff, then a big washer and the nut. Dont use the bolt to mount that mounts the diff as i managed to strip the nut and part of the bolt right at the end. Hope this helps
  21. I've just done this this evening among other things so thought I would do a quick write up in case anyone is looking for tips! Hope it helps http://spitfire-1500.blogspot.co.uk/2014/02/brake-drum-adjusters-refurb.html
  22. Are there any stainless nuts that you can recommend?
  23. They look similar to some of the ones that I have on but done fancy chrome ones as they dont stay that way I was thinking of these if they will be any good? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/16-x-Stainless-Mini-MG-Midget-Sprite-Taper-Wheel-Nuts-/161227628175?pt=UK_Cars_Parts_Vehicles_Wheels_tyres_Trim_Nuts_ET&fits=Cars+Type%3A1500%7CModel%3ASpitfire&hash=item2589ea5e8f
