  1. It has been a long time since I have posted on this forum, but to be honest I didn't really get along with the new updates!    Project spitfire hasn't really progressed any further unfortunately, finishing university then starting a job and living away from where the spitfire is really slowed things down! However, we are moving into a new rental that has a garage and space for working, so i'm going to get the spitfire back up!   Looking back at the pictures and old progress there are a lot of things that I would have done different. Looking at some of my welds makes me cringe! What is going to happen is I will recover the spitfire to my house at the end of next month, then start with removing the tub and 'starting again'. Now this doesn't mean all progress has been lost from before as the spitfire has been under cover. I just now have more income as i'm working full-time (now 23, not 16 like when the project started!) and I hope I can do things 'properly' this time round.   I will try to keep the thread updated and undo any previous made bodges that were done on a shoestring. Really thankful to all the people who helped me with the spitfire so early on, namely Richard at RB Mobile classics (unsure of forum name now?). Definitely owe him about 10 pints!

    She wont be a daily and just for fun Can easily add a muffler into the cherry bomb if needed (a lawnmower one i've heard fit well and still sound good!) Good point on the upwards exhaust filling with water though, I hadn't thought of that!

    I can buy 3m of mild steel tubing in 16 AWG, 1.75" diameter for £10. Shall I do this and just have a play? I can make my own y joint and cut and join with my welder?

    I just have the standard exhaust all the way to the engine apart from the cherry bombs. I have no experience in bending steel tubing or welding steel tubing! How much am i looking at to take it to a custom place to get the y joint made?

    It's going to have to be routed from behind the diff and round on either side like the picture below. I dont think it will be possible to have them angled massively upwards like in my mock up but I wasn't expecting to be able to really!

    I'm not going to go anywhere near the fuel tank though, and my flooring will be heatshielded and carpeted. Exhaust wouldn't be touching the floor but very close to it.

    Yeah, that's my problem, I know I have to form some sort of y joint but its difficult to get around the diff.

    Hi Everyone, I have recently acquired 2 cherry bomb exhausts and I am hoping to have them as a twin rear exit. However, I am hoping to recess them someway into the boot floor in order to get them to sit nicely at the rear and keep them away from the ground. Has anyone else had any success with doing this before? Had spoken to someone who had cut a 4" tube in half and welded those into the boot floor allowing the exhaust to sit higher. Some rubbish pictures of the exhaust. But hoping it looks good!

  12. Tightening up the rear hub nut with the handbrake on, but how far do I need to go? I went as tight as I could with a breaker bar, but dont know how tight to actually go? Is there a measurement I can go from rather than a torque driver as I dont have one? 😲
  13. Sorry i've not been very active recently! Life's been catching upto me with university work and the like! I recently purchased a little 1.2 clio as well which has seen me getting back onto the road after nearly 2 years of passing my test and not driving. Going home this weekend and hope to complete nearly all the welding on the spitfire and get the rear brakes sorted. That's if it's dry... Hopefully post more again soon. 🙂
  14. Would it be okay me bypassing my rear wing and going through under the fuel tank as I dont know how good the inside of my wing will be (After welding patches to it) so dont want it getting cut up.
