  1. Thanks for your help, the more I think about it your right, hopefully gate a chance thi coming week. Wish I had more time... thanks again
  2. I have a slight brake problem with my gt6 which I have recently purchased, the brakes work fine, it has a servo fitted as well, but when stationery, if you have your foot on the brake pedal the brake pedal pressure will just disappear with the pedal going all the way down to floor, but if taking your foot off and pressing the pedal again, the pressure is back instantly without pumping, I have checked for leaks etc,  But thinking it’s something to do with the servo, there are no Air leeks in the hoses and everything looks fine,  can anyone help, any advice appreciated  thanks john
  3. Just a simple question regarding maintenance, I had a spitfire and at the back of the rear wheels was a grease nipple. I have just recently bought a gt6, this still has the rotoflex system, on doing the maintenance, I can’t see a grease nipple or nut to place a grease nipple in to grease anywhere at the back wheels, can anyone advise please  thanks john
  4. Hi, sorry for the late reply, been on away on holiday, yes it’s backlash play, thanks for the advice it’s appreciated, had the top of and all looks ok, so will change the seals and give it a go, hopefully in the next few weeks. Will post my result. thanks again
  5. Hi. I have a single rail j type overdrive gearbox that is out a scrapped car and my plan is to change over my non overdrive. I have all the parts required, propshaft etc. can anyone Advise on what checks I can do to the gearbox prior to putting it in and trying. it seems to go through the gears ok, but in any gear between the input drive and output, there is slight play, about 3mm, is this normal. The propshaft also has a few mm play on the flexible joint, the joint that’s behind the rubber seal any advice on what to look for and the conversion would be much appreciated, I’m no mechanic, but not a complete novice. many thanks in advance for any advice john
  6. Thanks for everyone's advice, you were all spot on, I had the bleed nut on the bottom, turned it the right way and hey presto all working, it's a big relief, so thanks for all your help, it's much appreciated John
  7. Hi graham I will check this tomorrow, I may have the bleed nipple on the bottom, I hope it's as simple as that, as I say fingers crossed Thanks John
  8. Can any one help, I have just put in my spitfire 1500 a reconditioned gearbox, clutch set, thrust bearing, new slave and master cylinder and low and behold, can't get the clutch to work. Went over all the fluid avenues, even trying the old slave, then the old mc. I am convinced all is ok, I can manually with my trolley jack handle, take out slave cylinder, start the car and operate the clutch with a bit pressure, but when I put the slave cylinder back on, I can't get it to operate, the clutch pedal just disappears and no pressure, I have tried moving the slave cylinder forward as much as I can, but nothing works. Looking through the hole where the slave cylinder is all looks ok. Pin is not loose, the fork pin is also still in place as I can see this in the bell housing, Can anyone offer advice, I think I am going to have to take the gear back out next weekend, but not sure what to look for as it all looked fine on putting it in. I am pretty much a novice so any advice would be really appreciated. Thanks John
  9. I'm not sure, I only collected the car at the weekend, it's a 1977 version, reverse is right and forward as you ask. Any advice would be much appreciated, just found it odd, I thought as it goes in if you do it really quickly, but slowly at low revs you have no chance Thanks John
  10. I have just recently purchased a 1500 spitfire with a gearbox issue, when putting into 4th gear this has to be done really fast or it doesn't,t go in, slowly at low revs there is no chance of it going into gear, bit a bit more revs and very quickly it goes in, it's a non overdrive box, anyone any ideas. Thanks John
