  1. Thanks, I have emailed S&S to see what their prices are.
  2. Hi, I was wondering if anyone had a view as to the best quality front wing lower repair panels. Both Robsport and Rimmers list them, but there is a difference in the pricing. Many thanks Brett
  3. Really love the thread, keep up the good work and pics. 😎
  4. I am considering outsourcing the body restoration of my mk2 GT6. I live in Hertfordshire, I'm looking to get a few quotes, does anyone have any recommendations. Thanks
  5. As promised, here are some pics of my rear inner wheel arch panels On my way! my 6. I'm seriously considering outsourcing the body repairs, including the bonnet.
  6. Thanks John, appreciate the pics and comments, must say that's scary:-) I am hoping to spend a few hours this weekend, I have taken more pics, so will hopefully post some soon.
  7. Does anybody have any advice and pics relating to the best way to replace a GT6 rear inner wheel arch? Thx
  8. No pics, but the strip down continued today, the rear panel is 90% completed and the rear os wing is 95% stripped. Further investigations reveal that the floor and sills are solid, so it could be that I only need the ns rear wing and the is rear wing repair panels. Another £200, which I could fund through the sale of my floor panel and the sill panels I have. Also considering the colour originally it was dark blue, then red, now I'm thinking old English white. Must say really feeling good about the GT6, especially with the progress.
  9. Just purchased some more panels, inner sill and strengthener for the near side and the repair sections for the light pods, I purchased the mk1 repair sections for my mk2. :-) I like the look better. I still have about £800 pounds of panels to source, still small steps.
  10. Only managed 3 hours this weekend, but I did remove the rear number plate, and number plate light, rear hatch, rear side vents and the rear windows. I also continued to remove the paint from the rear of the car.  I have also purchased a domain to formally track my progress and upload all my pics. Will be a few weeks before its running.  I still aim to update this thread. :-)
  11. Well this weekend i removed the car from the garage allowing me to tidy the working environment and provided the opportunity to take some more detailed Pics. No further work has been undertaken on the car apart from hoovering all the dust out of it.  I have ordered some more poly disc to continue the strip down to bare metal.   I have also decided that I will retain the Webasto sun roof, but thanks to all who inputed into how to fill in the hole. I will be posting some pics detailing the level of welding and that state of the body so far.  However these are rather large images so I mak upload to Flikr and post the links. cant wait to complete the strip down, but I estimate at least another 4 days on the outside and the underside of the bonnet is another story.

I have to do the same to mine before it goes to paint, but I decided to leave the old stuff on until I get to the point of final bodywork and paint just so the good metal underneath remains protected. It was a consideration, but I need to know what's good and what's bad, will prime it to protect, I'm hoping in a few more weeks everything will be stripped off.;-)
  13. Well I managed to find a few hours to get down to the garage today. I continued with the removal of the paint and have managed to complete the roof section which I started the other week, I also managed to strip the rear below the tail gate.  I have included some pictures.
  14. Thanks for all the eBay links, all now in my watch list. I do have a small compressor, but I think it's too small. The welder I want to buy is a Sealey 190 mig gas, with euro torch. They seem to be around the £400 mark excluding gas bottle. :)
  15. Thanks Craig, more really useful info. Worth knowing now, because EBay is my best friend and I trawl it all the time for the items I need for the 6. A welder is also on the list;-) The best thing about the last few days, is the renewed enthusiasm I have for the 6, that's thanks to all you guys, offering support and info and myself getting myself back into a cold garage.  It's amazing how warm you get when you see some progress. 8)
  16. Thanks Louis, appreciate the the tip. ;-)
  17. Craig, Thanks of the detail feedback and th link.  Really appreciate it. I feel that this may be a good approach to undertake. Many thanks Brett
  18. Craig, Paint is not my area, give me broken mechanicals any day. Lol. At the moment I have no idea what products I should use to paint her.  The red primer was just a coat to protect the bare metal so surface rust does not form. I really had no choice but to go back to the bare metal the paint was so screwed up and it had been over sprayed in red twice in its life over the factory blue. What do you mean by etched. as for the silicone I had heard that it can cause paint issues. I can heat the garage that's not an issue. What would you recommend the best approach be? Thanks Brett
  19. Thank you all for the feedback. I have been back out to the garage this morning and I have to say that I am pretty pleased with the progress made yesterday. There is as always a lot to consider, but no need to make a decision at the moment. The sunroof vinyl at the rear of the sunroof was hard and cracked and was damaged on removal, the plate underneath is badly rusted. So if I keep the sunroof I would need to find someone to replace the vinyl and would need to make a new rear plate. The frame around the roof edge is in  perfect condition. So will hang in to the roof and consider my options. In the meantime I will continue to rub down to bare metal the rest of the car and hopefully soon put it into red oxide primer. Should I be concerned with minimum temperature before applying the primer and is there anything I should do to the bare metal before applying? In order to move the body work repairs on i have to purchase the following, although ebay seems to be light on panels, so may be have to pay the full price and buy from the likes of Rimmers:-( - new rear near side wing - the two repair sections for the off side rear wing - repair section for the front indicators both side, but looking for the mk1 sections. I prefer the round lights and this I feel is more in keeping with the bumper less look that I want. Lastly thanks for all the support, especially the messages that have kept me going and not taking an easy option. Happy new year to you all. Brett
  20. Its been a while and to be honest i have been sorely tempted to sell and purchase a fhc TR7 thats in the road, however i Went into the garage today and decided to remove the Webasto sunroof and begin the roof rub down. Here are some pics as you can see from the second pic half is now down to bare metal. So that makes the main section of the bonnet and half the roof back to bare metal. Plan is to get the roof fully striped back to the lights before the weekends out. Now I have removed the webasto I am considering returning the roof to full steel as it came out of the factory. has anyone undertaken this? Is it a case of replacing the full roof section or could a panel section be welded in. Alternatively I install a new webasto.
  21. She already has a very nice focus 1.8 sport. ;-) I don't class the 6 as a car it's a work of art, but she says if it has a v5 then it's a car;-)
  22. Well, I seem to be having a bit of a wobble re the restoration. Not managed anything in the last 3 weeks.  This is really down to workload and the lack of a welder and a rear wing. However, what seems to be more apparent since I sold my Astra convertible and just using the Jeep is That i do need another vehicle to get about. The jeep only does 10.9 to the gallon and being as I built it for the bad weather I am not prepared to sell it, coupled with the fact I just love it too much. Borrowing my wife's car is also not practical unless I have to pick her up from a night out ;-) And i have been told that I cannot buy another car unless either the 6 or the jeep goes..... I suspect that my wife's dislike of the GT6 ( this goes back to an episode of oil fumes pouring into the cockpit after a disasterous oil change many years ago on my first GT6) drives the constant statements  that I could have purchased a TR7 that's on the road and drivable and still get my classic Triumph fix. Also she loved my two previous TR7's as much as I did. ;-) So I have spent the last few weeks considering the sale of the GT6 and the parts and have been monitoring the adverts for a Decent yet relatively cheap TR7 FHC.  It's a tough decision, but not driving a car is just doing my head in... Time for a beer to aid the thinking process. I enclose a picture of the jeep ;-) not a Triumph but...
