  1. Think I've narrowed it down to the gear stick. When I hear the whirring / vibration, if I hold the gearstick then the noise stops? Does this mean anything? Thanks
  2. It had to happen just after I re carpeted it, didn't it!? . I'll have to take a look into it when I have time but do you think it's wise to drive as it is?
  3. I've recently noticed that a whirring/whining noise comes from around the gearbox tunnel or passenger footwell when I accelerate sometimes. It sounds like a vibration against something sort of thing. Any ideas what it could be? Thanks James
  4. I've recently splashed out a bit of money on getting my carbs cleaned out and had new jets put onto it, I had to wedge the choke cable in for it to work as well as I could but now even when I wedge it the car isn't starting now and I think the carbs are the originals which have done 98000 miles, so I think I may need new ones. Where's the best/cheapest place to buy either new or reconditioned Carbs? Thanks James
  5. Got to be honest, I'm not really sure if it's original or not. The dash board trim probably is but not sure about door trim etc. Just need something that stains it a bit 🤔
  6. I'll be putting on a new softtop soon and don't want to ruin it like the current one that's on. This one doesn't have the rear poppers at the top near the window, looks like they were there however. That manual with the pictures look pretty good, I'll give it a go tomorrow thanks
  7. I know this sounds like a pretty simple question but...how do you actually fold the roof down correctly without distorting the plastic windows, and making it flat enough to fit the stowage cover on? I've Googled it but can't really find and in-depth step-to-step guide for doing it? Every time I try it I find either the windows get crushed or the cover doesn't fit over it? Thanks James
  8. Hi, In my 1500 I have mainly the plastic/vinyl interior trim. It's faded from black a bit and I have tried a few trim wax's to see if it restored it's colour hut they don't. Is there anything anyone uses that works and will keep my interior trim black? And also the trim on my grill /bumper? Thanks James
  9. Just realised it's a Overhaul/Service kit I've got so I'll only be doing that then and see how that pans out. Hopefully that's all it needs. So Where can I get a Carb balancer? I'll post a pic tomorrow when I give it a go at looking at them fully but I'm 95% sure it's not a waxstart.
  10. Thanks for all your replies. It's a '79 Spitfire so it has the standard carbs so sounds like it should be sort of straight forward  ;D. I'm just praying that it's the last major part/thing that needs doing so I don't have much of a fear of it braking down again. James

Only take one apart so if you get stuck you can look at the other one to see how it all goes back together Look around on here as there's loads of pictures of folk refurbing their carbs I'm not really that mechanically minded but how long do you think I would be looking at to do it?
  12. I've been having a few issues with starting and idling my Spitfire 1500, took it to the garage and they said I'd need new throttle spindles. Got them fitted by the garage and now they say I could do with a Carburettor rebuilt kit to get it running much better as at the moment the car won't idle atall and always conks out when there's no throttle used, I've bought the rebuild kit and was wondering, as I already have new spindles in it, how easy it is to replace the other parts in the kit or does it have to be done by a garage? Thanks James

Would you be able to box/pack them if I was to send a courier to pick them up? And when you you say 'have'?.... :) James
  14. Does anyone know if it's possible to buy individual parts for the roof frame?, as I've noticed I have a part missing. Thanks James
  15. It's just that I've got those little stain circle things that are difficult to get off so I didn't know if normal car shampoo would work. I'll give them a go, cheers
