Thank you both for the suggestions - I will keep TR Enterprises and Powell's both in mind for the future. Unfortunately, ORS weren't able to take the car in and were only really interested in having the gearbox separately. I have booked in today with Keith at KN Transmissions near Preston (a bit further but hopefully worth it if the job is done properly) - he came across as very knowledgable about our cars and I can't find a bad word about them online. I will report back with how I get on! Thanks again to all!

Thank you for the suggestion, I think you are on the right lines - all research now suggesting input shaft. I will give Methewsons a ring later in the week if I can't get anywhere with it - I never would have thought of that! That's right so it definitely sounds as though that is the issue (it was noisy for a while and then after being left over the winter it is quite loud) - you can get the gearbox bits needed online (e.g. Chris Witor) so hopefully if that is the problem I will be able to have it reconditioned... I will give them a call now as everywhere else seems to not be interested! Thanks again to all for your input.

Hi all, I was wondering whether anyone would be able to recommend somewhere to have a look at my Manual O/D 2.5pi (MK1)? There is a strange 'whirring' sound emanating from the transmission tunnel when you let the clutch in (even when in Neutral) - I have tried various garages in the area (near Thirsk, North Yorkshire) but nobody seems interested in working on classics... Any recommendations for who could diagnose/fix near me? The noise is alarming enough that it will need to be trailered to the garage! Many thanks
