  1. Unfortunately the early and late needles are not interchangeable.

There doesn't seem to be an equivalent in the later ones ,so I was just seeing if anyone had fitted a needle that ran well without trying all the different options,at Ā£20 a throw which will get a tadĀ  expensive.

I don't want to run a much leaner needle longer than necessary, especially with this methonal fuel which runs leaner anyway.Ā

I may just refurbish the early carbs I've got hold of and sell this set.

    Thanks for your help.

  2. Honestly I don't know they were on the car when I got it over 20 years ago.

But it does explain why all the listed needles seem to be a lot leaner.

Do you have any recommendations for a needle in these circumstances or should I goĀ  for original carbs?

Are you running with the original airfilter and exhaust systems?

Any changes to either the engine breathing in and outĀ  are likely to change the needle profile needed.

K & N s but likely to go back to standard as there in poor condition .

  4. Hi all I have just rebuilt the Stromberg's on my mk2 vitesse, which were fitted sometime in the past with cd3's from a 2000

Burlen supplied B5BT needles as there listed for this carb under the 2000 model, and is what they had in stock at the time.

There fitted and the car starts and runs although on the richest height adjustment of the needle. [haven't been able to road test yet]

comparing this needle and the original 6AC of the the correct 150cd's the b5bt is much leaner throughout the range and I wondered if anyone had any experience along these lines for which would be the best needle.

I should say before rebuild they had B5CF fitted and felt a little under powered and didn't have the acceleration of a Vitesse with standard carbs.

so before I go down the line of reconditioning a set standard CD's I wondered if any one had a needle suggestion.

  5. HiĀ  I don't know if anyone can help , my vitesse mk2 1969 Stromberg's are worn out and I'm about to rebuild them, but there are no stamped part numbers on the bodies apart from 106 stamped on flange face of the front and 105 stampedĀ  on the rear carb flange.

but I don't know ifĀ there correct for the car or if there jetted correctly.

what I have are 150cds top adjusting with .90 jets [pressed in] and B5CF biased needles.

I think this Ā could beĀ late GT6 mk3 set up.

the car has always been a bitĀ  underpowered compared to a friends vitesse same year running early cds stamped 3224F and 3224R.

the engine is a standard vitesse I rebuilt it last year, although it did have the wrong cam in it which I corrected.

I think the basic CDRK11 or equivalent cd overhaul kit will do the job , but is .90 jet correct or should it be .100 and which needle ?

Also does anyone have any experience pressing in the jets i.e. bestĀ from the top or bottom?

I bent it slightly pushing it out.

    any thoughts appreciated.

  6. Oops no i didn't its a mk2  2 litre rebuilt engine in standard  form.

I originally fitted a electric fan with stat in the top hose but it was noisy and ran continuosly.

So i re-fitted the standard yellow blades witch work fine except in high alltitude hot areas .

I have been  told you can fit a different set that produce more air flow for hot areas, obviously these would have to be swapped for a British climate .

  7. I am about to upgrade my radiator with a modern re-cored unit for touring in hot countries and want to retain the mechanical fan, but wondered if there is a more efficent unit with more or less blades?

  8. Club triumph Gatwick area are on there annual trip , this year we are off to Scotland got as far as Northwich  and brake light switch failed does anyone know if a factors aroun Warrington I can pick one up?

  9. Thanks for the replies

I was mainly concerned that what I have is correct and not a lash up, but as i'm  sure the engine has been reworked once already (020" Pistons & 010" crank ) and the head looks like it has unleaded seats (slightly proud on exhaust valves) albeit they are  somewhat burnt and pitted especially no 2 whose spring was upside down.

It appears that most engine Re-manufactures re-build to the latest spec which appears to be single spring and as iv'e no intention of going racing etc i think i will stick to standard specs.

  10. I am currently building  a Mk2 vitesse engine which has a 308778 cam and a 517528 head.
This head has single springs where all the parts lists I can find show the vitesse  having twin springs?
My question is do I have the wrong head or did they swop to single springs at some point ?
Or could it have been previously built using single instead of double springs?

The head also has a dab of yellow paint on it if that helps?
