  1. Free to a good home : pair of early MKII seats in brown.  Non headrest and diaphragms missing.  The drivers seat also has a tear as shown in the photos.  Does anyone want to save them?

    Located in North Dorset.

Use a back street place, take the old tyres with you.

I am allowed 2 tyres a month at the local tip. So is Gill.....

But I too have a battered changer.

Recently made a changing bar that does not damage the slots. Copied z design on ebay (chap sells them for about £60 I think. I had most of the stuff, just had to buy a bit of HDPE sheet. )

I think you are lucky - most recycling centres won't take them now.  However, farmers use old tyres to weigh down silage clamps ... I managed to lose 8 tyres only this morning.

What is the Z design Clive?  Any photos of your changer please?  I only pay £10 per corner locally but even that stings a bit.

    Thanks, Mark

  3. When I did mine, I just cut the rear deck out because the donor car had been left upside down and the wings had rotted away.  However, most people seem to take the top of the wings as well.

most of the diffs im getting in are like this inside.

That's shocking - how do people let their cars get into such a state (whistle)

    Quoted from iggy
do you no how long that diff in the bottom picture had been run before draining the oil?

I bet it's been standing around in someone's shed for 20 years and was of unknown condition before that  (whistle) (whistle)

Really; those ramps, they look familiar.... :-/

I understand they're still in use 24 years after that photo was taken ;)

As has been pointed out above, you can't beat wood for supporting heavy objects.

    Hello Mark,

what springs are fitted, they look quite heavy duty? No sign of spring binding?

Personally I would say that nick would not have caused the fracture as it actually fractured ahead of the nick.

    Alec

    Hi Alec,

They are XJ40 springs - no sign of binding and I believe not heavy duty / have been used by many others without issue.

    And a little more background:

The whole engine assembly had supposedly only done about 3000 miles since a professional rebuild - the shaft and rockers all looked like new (repro) items - except that the faces on at least 4 of the rockers had been eaten away and could not be re-used (hence the older looking rockers in the photo).

And .. I did forget to mention that I was on my way home from this year's CT autosolo - so the engine had been bouncing off the rev limiter all day.  This might not have helped  ;)

I thought that was what you were getting at. There does indeed appear to be a small indentation in the edge section.
However this is on the compression side of the arm so wouldn't be heavily loaded.
Looking at the surface structure of the crack face it looks as though it was an instantaneous clean break.
The push rod is seriously bent and broken suggesting a siezed valve.

    Roger

Roger - I agree with you regarding the break.  Will get it out again tomorrow to check, but I assumed it was a clean break.
However, the push rod came from the exhaust valve - assumption is that the broken piece of (inlet) rocker flew over to the exhaust side and jammed the pushrod against the side of its channel - causing it to bend until it could go no further and finally snapping!
Engine has been running since - suggesting valves are OK - except that it is now playing up again so further investigation needed.

Genuine NOS - fine (think only one hand still available?) other offerings seem to be rather crap.  I was given sight of a freshly broken new one recently and it was not a high quality item in finish or material.  Suspect a refaced and bushed (if needed) original would last alot longer.

A bit like this one?  :'( .  I was only driving gently at the time, honest!

  9. I experienced a similar issue once when the oil pump pickup had fallen off and into the sump.  Admittedly I noticed the drop in pressure on cornering rather than acceleration -  I had to top the oil up much higher than the top mark on the dipstick just to get me home!

I hope this has not happened to yours  :-/

A chap in the TR Register created his own Sabrina from an Alpha engine.  He manufacturered the 'Sabrina' cam covers and sourced a pair of DU6's.
The carbs were the most expensive part of the engine project.  Quite an impressive Repro/TRibute call it what you may.

    Is that this one?
