I think those big events give you the coverage they need. Will CT be able to get coverage for us US folks?
-
Emailed Hagerty and Cherished... will not cover without a UK Reg.
Seems that Brexit ruined all the coverage.
-
Do you recall who that was that imported with US plates so I can ask. Ive googled and and emailed many places and Ive found no one able to insure a temp import car.
Maybe I can get a Q plate for the temp import.

Ok so I know the event is open but since Im across the pond... with an unknown car and no confirmed co-driver. Im going to have to wing-it for this year.
Ill be in the UK July to Sept. first thing is to access the Vitesse that Team Torpedo has store at my mother in laws in Bristol. I hope its a quick fix. Until then I need to have a backup plan. Anyone have room for a co-driver if my rides not in order?
Heres my ride for 2026 and what Im working on right now.
Also I going to need to find insurance for '26. Hagerty will not cover me without UK reg and I plan to temp import my car with my current US tags. Anyone know of anyone that will cover me?

finally installed a heater; 5spd; speedo cable; radio; door handles on my GTR5.
still need to install my S2 cam and shave the head on the GT6 motor in it.

Anyone have experience importing a Triumph from USA to UK?
Thinking about building and shipping a car over for the next 10CR. I know I can keep it there up to 6 mths with my local US tags/papers. but after that what papers does the DVLA need to import it? will they accept a heritage cert for the build date etc.?
thx
Doug

IF I happen to be in the UK again next year Id like to volunteer to be an extra driver if anyone needs one.
-
Now that 10CR is finished our team has 2 cars left in UK that needs to get to Southampton port to get shipped over to the US.
We have a Herald saloon in Waterlooville (not far from Portsmouth) that needs to get to Southampton next week. Its fully driving and legal. we can get it towed but if anyone is able and willing to drive it to port please let me know.
We also have a Herald estate in Bristol but we dont have a ship date yet. its going to west coast US sometime. Again.. would be great if someone could drive it.
If anyone is willing please email me: spitfire4@1147cc.com
thanks

OMG... what a TRIP! we had 18 guys and 6 cars and we broke down almost everyday but still made it over and back.
I hope some of you were there. Im now back in the USA... cant wait for the next one. Still have lots of pics to go thru and post. but now Im trying to build a Spit6 so I can ship it over for the next one. Not sure on the whole import plan yet. Its fine to leave my US plates on it for up to 6 mths.. not sure about after that yet. or how much VAT will be on a Triumph. Anyone have an idea on that?

I spent about 2 mths welding the car when it shipped over... so much Rust! Also remove the interior and re-dyed the bits. Now a year later I get to pull the engine out and repaint the engine bay before I start on the outside body. I re panel bonded the bonnet supports, also need to bond the ceiling bit too.
Hope to drop the engine back in this week. Trying to get as much done before I leave for 10CR in July.
my internet sucks at the shop so I need to take and update my youtube videos on my Acclaim "CLO"

Cant wait for 10CR... but I would really like to wait; time flies when you work on your own cars. I still have so much work to do before I leave. (Ive been working on my Acclaim that I bought for 10CR before Covid) Also trying to get as much customer car work done before I go over for almost 3 mths
My mother in law lives in Bristol so Im coming over mid July, my wifes going over early for some weddings.
Looks like I have to fly up to Scotland to finish some work on a Herald that our Team bought so Ive got to plan out those logistics and hope I can get the car in shape for the 10CR... which will prob be 11CR if I drive it down from Scotland to Bristol? then prob to LON for our other Team Torpedo members to pick up the car while I pick up our other Herald that also needs work. apparently someone decided it was ok to drive the car with no temp gauge! Im not driving the Alps without a temp gauge!
Already tempted to ship my Acclaim or GTR5 over for next 10CR.
If any of you see me in 2 Heralds around Bristol give me a wave!

you dont need the whole bike kit; just the bodys I pay about 300 USD for each one; rubber mounts about $30
still cheaper than a new set of HS6s
-
Ive installed about 8 sets of HSRs and they are awesome.
Just use the stock manifold with 2 of them.

K.I.S.S.

Id suggest the Mikuni HSR45 carbs over the EFI and SUs

So Ive been chasing too much fuel problem on the Herald Solex B30
Ive changed the needle valve 3 times and have also ran the car without the float/needle valve or fuel pump.
just fuel in the bowl and I still getting too much coming out of the spray bridge. so I know its not a pump or pressure issue. starts and runs but will not idle with too much fuel coming out of the bridge.
I have it apart and cleaned a few times.
I did have it idling once but cant get it to do it again. whats the deal?

OMG I hate these...
Had the same prob on a car. and one of doors had the large round spring broken on the end, so look for that too. it seems so strange to me that the latch bit is designed to hit the back of the catch and kinda bounce down to the latched position.
IF I had know how bad these were I would have welded in some Spitfire mechs before doing the paint.

Not many Triumphs under 1000cc.
Ive always wanted to do Paris to Peking in my mk1 Spit

Im working on a RHD 1957 small mouth TR3 for a customer who bought the car in the UK near Ipswich while he was stationed with the USAF at Bentwaters. The old reg was ULM70. I believe it was red in the 1980s; he said he saw the car and went inside to see who owned it and ask if they would sell the car and the owner said his wife was about the have a baby so he did need to sell it.
The car has a factory replacement TR4 engine (3B maybe). it had an overdrive that the owner gave with the car that Ive tested and it seems to work. the 4 spd in it now is an early one but I cant figure out why they removed the OD.
He has an old invoice from 1968 from Mann Eqerton; Botwoods, Ipswich. "Rectify faulty OD and carry out MOT"
Name on the invoice seems to be Mr E Pyle or C Pyle.
Would be cool to find the previous owners.

Thanks. its still a work in progress. need to lift it back up a bit after lowering it too much. and leaving it rough until I get my other projects finished. still have my spit and acclaim to finish.

yeah; its an early HDVA I think. it doesnt have his mark and it has the cross rod and fork setup.

Just a few pics of my GTR5 build for those who havent seen it.
its a true TR4 solid axle car with a 2.0 GT6 engine and GT6 mk3 roof welded to it.
I couldnt have a "GT" with just a 4 cylinder. had a TR6 4spd in it until now... the layshaft needle bearing turned into dust. Installing a Toyota W58 5spd in it now. I moved the whole engine assembly back into the firewall for a better balance and make more room for my future A/C setup. so the 5spd mount and driveshaft are all custom. I had converted to a 6 center handbrake as I thought I would end up cutting out the 4 handbrake handle hole in the floor for the custom TR3 metal trans cover but now Ill prob go back to the stock 4 handbrake setup as the driveshaft will prob be too high for the DS tunnel. prob cut and make a new one next week for that once I get my driveshaft slip setup in place.
GT6 engine is all stock as I can tell. running HS6 on it now; plan to install HSR40s and a S2 cam at some point.
