  1. What a dreadful shock. Very sad. We met Nuala on the RBRR2018 we tried to keep up with the yellow peril but failed mostly….except when the co-pilot was driving!!

Nuala was certainly a great advocate of long distance events and a great loss to the Triumph world.

Our condolences to her family and friends.

We are actively talking to various organisations about carbon offset and it is hoped that the next RBRR and other CT events are offset in some correct manner.

Surely the fact that the cars are old defrays some carbon? Mine is 64 years old, that must count for something. I’m sceptical about carbon offsetting and paying someone else to salve your conscience. Land near us has been bought uo to plant trees specifically to help businesses offset their carbon footprint. That’s lazy; they should try harder to reduce their own footprint not pay someone else to do it for them.

How many RBRRs can you do before your carbon credit has run out!?😜

Plenty to read and digest here.

I do not think we will be asking crews to prove their mechanical worth, not reasonable and a little unfair. We want to bring people into the Club and certainly don't want to encourage elitism. Back in 1966 I would imagine not many of the crews were mechanically versed, still maybe not as necessary as the cars should have been more reliable...........

Def agree that more women taking part would be better, however, this old car hobby is a very blokey thing, so whilst its a nice thought, I  cannot see the ratio changing. We did have two women crews taking part: Jess Cook/Steph Brake and Clare Pearson/Becky Whitehead. Experienced RBRR'er Katie Foreman withdrew on the eve.

RallyAppLive: We were delighted with it, this will feature again in 2023. Docwad, Francis' phone was the one registered, not yours. We hope that it will be able to be used in 23 when 'running in the background'.

We joined CT in 2016 specifically to do the RBRR, we’re still here and have never noticed a clique/elitist culture. In fact CT is the most down-to-earth club we belong to! Frustrated that we couldn’t participate this time due to my knee surgery but marshalling at Bude renewed the intention to do the next one in our rejuvenated TR3!

  4. Quoted from Tim Hunt-

I liked the last part of the route - anything to avoid the M25! It was pity that the A5 was iffy but to avoid that we came off the A421 on the A5130 then minor roads through Salford and Hulcote and on to the A507 all the way to Junction 10 of the A1(M) and three junctions down to Knebworth. However, I never want to negotiate the awful Turweston Airfield perimeter road again. Please let's find an alternative, decently paved penultimate control location for 2020!

Agree re Turweston Tim!  I think that perambulation has finished off my rear spring bushes!  I have fond memories of the location however as it was where I learned to drive in my Old Man's Herald 13/60 Conifer Green estate back in 1978 but it was a lot smoother back then and there were no buildings!

  5. Well nothing fell off.

But the annual output from a moderately sized oil state passed through it! [Apologies for anyone following us who got an unexpectedly greasy windscreen!] .  By Sunday there was also a bit being burned too! 🤔.  . Poor acceleration on Sunday was tracked down to low oil in the SU's dashpots.  I grudgingly parted with a few drops of my rapidly dwindling supply of engine oil and all was well .

So I think there will need to be some investigative surgery over winter!!

Apart from 10 litres of Halfords green stuff we did 3302km (2052m) door to door and averaged 33.7 mpg which, considering the speedometer calibration exercise I did on a quiet stretch of autobahn, ............wasn't at all bad. Engine remained very cool although engine oil temperature reached 100 degC at the top of the Stelvio.

  6. I can confirm E10 and even "Super10" does not agree with Triumphs.  I put half a tank in by mistake in rural Germany and we had a very unhappy TR3 for a day and a half on the Paris-Prague Rally (a little warm up event for the 10CR 😉 ).

It's very easy to be fooled by unfamiliar pumps particularly when relived to find a petrol pump in foreign parts!

I have stuck to Shell V-power or BP Ultimate since then and have not even been tempted by 100 RON that is available on the continent.

  7. Gave the TR3 a quick test drive to Prague and back last week - 2648 miles door to door - should do the trick I reckon . The only thing that fell off was a fog lamp when we took off over a level crossing in the Czech Republic (might have been the Red Bull I put in the tank to counteract half a tank of cruddy stuff I put in by mistake!).  So hopefully nothing else will fall off on the 10CR

  8. Ours will be in the post tomorrow!

Can't think of a better way to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary and my Birthday! We did an TRR Alpine Tour in my TR6 for our Honeymoon 10CR should be fun in the 3 🙂

We got the "hard sell" at Knebworth after the RBRR - it wasnt really needed!!

  9. Yes, thanks to the Committee for squeezing us in!  Really looking forward to it (will I feel the same half way round?!! 😉

Geoffrey (the car!) is in "hospital" (a nasty case of tin worm) at the moment but will be raring to go very soon.  Hope to catch up with some veterans at the Lincoln TR/CT event!
