  1. My GT6 is totally standard as well and in a great state of tune as I've had it on a rolling road but my blood runs cold when I see a traffic jam on a sunny day and I prepare to brake with the handbrake so I can keep the revs up in stop start queues! I am definitely suffering from vapour lock as when the traffic starts to move freely and I can get the revs up the coughing and spluttering soon stops! I've put a carbs heat shield on and even modded it to have a double skin but alas to no avail, I have a standard airbox also. I'm seriously considering an electric fuel pump! 🤔

there is a wee,rd looking device under the dash on my GT,
like 2 long fingers  that bolts to the rack,   and also to some dash mounts.

look to see if they are tite,  OR, if they tite, then the mounts have no split
an opened up. leaving the columm to float aboot.

Is that the part that is labelled with a 2 in a circle Marcus? That seems to be for Sweden only, I don't have one fitted, but I do have a wobbly column (ooer!)  :P

  3. Hi Bruce, when I last serviced the car I noticed the diff took a lot of oil, so wasn't too surprised when after a run quite a bit of it appeared on the garage floor! I thought the problem was the pinion oil seal so I changed that (it doesn't seem right to take a metal seal out and replace it with a flimsy rubber one!), after a test drive, well the next morning, there was still a puddle on the floor from the centre joint it seemed. When I was replacing the pinion seal I noticed there was quite a bit of play between the wheel moving and the prop moving, add that to the fact that it had started to make a faint noise and I don't know how long it had been running "dry" I thought it best to replace it! You are more than welcome to come round and give it a blast, always nice to have a second opinion!  ;)

You could fit a 6-stud rear case to your spare diff, only take 10 mins and a new gasket.

There ought to be plenty of rear cases floating about.

Great idea! I could use the rear case of the one I take off for now. I have a horrible image of a load of cogs falling out onto the floor when I open it, I take it the pinion wheel and the rest are located in the front of the case?!  ??)

It's certainly possible to fit a four stud diff just by leaving two studs out. I did it on a Herald estate (1500 engine so we fitted a 1500 Spitfire diff) and I think my Vitesse is also that way.

I need to replace the diff on my GT6 too, but I need to get hold of a 3.63 (or 3.27) one first. It's currently a 4.11 off a 13/60...

Rob, the guy I got my diff from says he has both of those diffs, I'll PM you his details.

  6. Cheers guys!

@Roy, 'tis the other way around, the replacement diff has only 4 stud holes, I don't suppose this will affect rigidity with all the other fixing points?  :o

  7. Hi all, I've got a MK3 roto GT6 and I'm having the diff reconditioned but to keep the car on the road I've got a replacement diff. Thing is, the one on the car has 6 stud mountings and the spare I've got is a 4 stud probably off a swing spring (same ratios). Is it a case of fitting the 4 stud and leaving 2 studs off or is that not an option?

    Cheers for any help!

  8. Mine does this if I don't run it on Shell V-Max or some such other high octane fuel (but it likes v-max the best, like Stella it's reassuringly expensive!), I know it's running a bit rich at the moment but I'm waiting for the guy at Mini Sport in Burnley to come back off the sick so I can get it on the rolling road (he's only been off for 2 months.....), I think he was last seen tuning one of our members GT6....  :X

  9. I've got the AccuSpark on my GT6, cheap and simple to install and does give an improvement. Had it on for 3 years now without a problem. Only thing I had to do was replace the ballast resistor and 6V/12V coil with a 12V Lucas coil. Not sure why I had to do this (3 years is too long to remember specifics with my drink addled brain!) all I know is that it didn't work with the original setup but did with the latter!  ;)

  10. I knew you boys would come through for me! Puller bought from machine mart, seal out new one in and I'm back on the road and the garage floor is drip free! I think there is too much slop in the take up between the propshaft moving and the wheel turning,  about half to an inch of play when turned.  Ah well, when it breaks I'll treat myself to a Papworth.  :)

    Thanks again!

  11. Cheers Paul, I'm looking at getting another gear puller, the one I have took the flange off nice and easy but the arms are too big to get between the seal and output shaft, I need a cheap and spindly one! How can a seal that leaks like a sieve be stuck so tight?! Look at the weather and she's up on stands in the garage!

Me too! Bruce brought it round to mine a few weeks ago and it didn't look too bad! Ah, what lies beneath is the stuff of nightmares  :o

Keep going Bruce, you're doing a great job! Hope you didn't leave any of those tin worms on my drive!!!  ;D

That sounds about right, what's not to like?!!  ;D

BO, in answer to your earlier question, my system is the full Captain Kirk!
