    Hi All,

I've got a DIY BOSCH 044 conversion on the estate, which has done well for over 10+ years but on this years RBRR it decided to give us a "challenge" towards the end. From just before Bude to just after Honiton it was cutting out with a lack of pressure and we wasn't too sure if we were going to make it back to Knebworth 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

It was getting hot and making quite a racket !!

We got round this by removing the spare wheel in the estate and leaving it open along with the windows. This allowed it to keep cooler.

I've just checked the fuel filters both pre and post pump, both fine.

The problem with the estate is that it has to suck the fuel out through the top of the tank through a pipe with an ID of 6mm.

My new plan is to get a new outlet welded on to the tank in AN-8 the ID bore of the aluminium hard line is around  10mm the flexible tubing is around 11mm and 9.5 for the fittings.

The pressure side of the pump and post filter is already in AN-6 up to the distribution block of the PRV.

So my question to the Pump-ologists is:

1, Do you think AN-8 is large enough?

2, Is AN-6 OK for the pressure side or should that be increased to AN-8?

3, It has a diaphragm PRV and  the over pressure return is in ID 7mm. Should that be increased ?

Its not an electrical supply problem as the pump is fed with a direct line from the battery through a 30amp fused relay. The relay also has a direct earth back to the battety. All cables are rated at 30 amp. They were cool to the touch when the pump wasn't !

    Views etc appreciated👍

Looking forward to the 2025 run !!

    Cheers,

    Pete

    Hello Pete

i read that you have a filter on the high pressure side. On the original Lucas- Triumph set up there was never a filter after the pump...

It's more common to go to HS6s, by going to HS4 you're going from one pair of 1.5" carbs to another, what's the benefit?

Don't do it Ian. An early engine is far better on CD150's..

    SUs will make no difference.

Contact Burlen Fuel systems to repair or refurb your existing Strombergs. They will be able to sort you out.

Consider the flowed / balanced inlet manifold from Chris Witor and you will have a good reliable set up.

  3. My Master light switch is failing. Does anyone have one for my car ? Its a 1971 Spitfire Mk.IV with the black plastic dashboard.

The master light switch is in the centre on the centre dash panel section . It is the earlier " Clear Hooters " type not a Lucas one.

    They are NLA ..

    Can anyone help.

    Kind regards

    Dave Langrick.

I am doing a refresh on my MkIII Spitfire with a PI engine installed.

I would like to move  the engine back a bit (4" - 6"). What are the options on relocating the clutch master cylinder and pedal?

Anyone got some photographs of such work?

    Evening Richard
I can supply info you need and pics of mine , . The maiden has a 6" set back as per Dave picton circa 2005 spec. There are various sub choices as it were depending on induction and gearbox spec.
Give me a ring or pm mePhone number in R&R entry list.

  5. good afternoon to all in this thread above.
Firstly , I did not read this thread until last night - after I got back from Gaydon so my apologies to all but especially Colin , Elaine and Linsey - for my apparent ignorance in not thanking you yesterday.
Tim did mention it to me last week but it slipped my mind to follow it up and look.

I would just like to express my sincere thanks for the kind comments in the Thread and yesterday - it was good to talk to all of you and as I said at the meeting I feel we have a good standard of new entries for this years Run.
Andy - in reply- the Injector leads are no longer stored on the wheelarch I'm afraid - I think they are still in stock here though - I will dig them out prior to the run and hide them in the Car somewhere :)
One thing I didn't mention yesterday whilst up was to say that all the Forums,  Blogs and posts show the regular entrants have once again all put in long hours and /or a lot of cash in order to make sure their cars are once again fit and raring to go .
I am sure all the new crews will be impressed by some of the  regular cars on this event that you may not have seen before. A  few of them are highly developed  over many years of Participating in the RBRR and do not -ahem - hang about.

If ANY car does suffer from problems it will certainly not be through lack of effort on your part.
That's all for now. Back to the Decorating - The Spare Room - before my co driver flies in from France next week!
See you all with your cars in good order at the Plough. :)

  6. Good evening
engine work is basic really ,  stock cross drilled crank  dynamically balanced with flywheel and clutch. TR5 new outright cam with new followers , flowed head, stainless valves with new standard guides. Standard 2.5 PI metering unit.
    1-2-3 electronic distributor.

alloy water pump housing,  6-3-1 extractor manifold , inlets (early TR5 throttle bodies) opened out to match head , electric fan.
reliable , torquey , economical.  Not interested in BHP figure  but from the spec above you can work it out.
the car is fast enough with the weight reduction .

    cheers
    dave

  7.   My Car is a 1971 Spitfire Mk 4 with a 2,5 PI fitted moved back 6.5 inches

It has minimal interior  with standard later seats, alloy  inner door panels . It has the Canleys alloy front hubs fitted.

car weight with soft top total was about  850 kg of which 460 was on the front wheels.
    regards

  8. I have Just Booked Dover Calais - Dunkirk - Dover for Notts group 5 cars. Booked them through Just Ferries on 01759 301010.
Craig Thorley is my contact there. He is very helpful and has experience with CT group bookings on previous 10 CR events.

Give him a bell , he may be able to get a better price than the internet. and of course its always better to talk to someone , rather than going through the depressing call centre press 1 for ..... option that P/O and the like can only offer.

    thanks.
