  1. My 62 herald restoration project has its original hood with the cleaning/care instructions stamped into the back window, I'm hoping to save it, but if I can't I would be tempted to order a red one to match the matador red interior, factory black paint.

GT6: Rebuild the gear change mechanism and try to lower the rear end of the gearbox in an (vain) attempt to reduce the vibration that occurs at 70mph.

TR6: Fit fibreglass spoiler and start to initiate the repair of the hardtop I bought last year.

2.5 Saloon: Its being repaired at the moment...so nothing for me. When back, though it needs an engine rebuild.

Very nice the Pi looks too 😉

  3. MOE behaved very well, the only problem was fuel vapourisation at the top and the first part of the decent at Stelvio, cutting out with power steering on the bends was not a good experience Otherwise three pints of oil over about 2000 miles, lots of petrol but overall less than last time. (Inaccuracies in mileometer/Speedo makes it difficult for accuracy) Nothing fell off, although I was worried at the beginning because if exhaust popping on the over run, but she is quite highly tuned with Wittor manifold and semi sport exhaust and then I heard lots if others doing the same  I guessed that it was ok. Nearly all way points visited but missed the Swiss club due to running late and atrocious diversions.

Stena Line from Harwich to Hoek van Holland is currently 50% discount if booked before Jan 29th. I have a crossing booked (not 10CR) that includes two night crossings with cabins for £229. Hague just up the road.

Damn it should check the web page earlier next time!

You say all hotels booked Chris. Do you know something we don't, i.e. roughly where we are going to staying on the Thursday night or are you planning to do an all nighter through the Alps?

    Tim

Ah should have said all known hotels booked, not privy to insider information, most certainly no overnighting here!

  6. Hi everyone, due to a worsening of my long term heart condition, I have had to withdraw from this years event, my RBRR started (as far as I remember) in 1986, I have used lots of different cars, my old Courier van now lovingly restored by Chris Gunby was a regular competitor, the one year I failed to complete was a borrowed John Kipping herald estate which drove magnificently but diff seal failure meant giving up in Birmingham on the southward journey.
In the last few years I have been the proud owner of a Mk1 2000 much loved and modified, I did offer the team the use of the car but they didn't want to break up the team and hopefully you will see us marshalling in some daytime fixture in the South west.
The good news is that a first time team is to replace us.

  7. I had some really good brake pads a couple of years ago, not green stuff, but similar heat dissipating/don't easily overheat but still stop you, can't find anything about them any ideas??

  8. Anyone got a stainless steel wheel trim they can sell me, as one of mine disappeared on the Isle of Wight......was it pushed or did it jump? :(

  9. This will be number twelev for me and I have have had some good teams, some average teams and one completely useless team from which my love of long distance events nearly never recovered, my current team are brill we get on well never any arguments about money, it's split three ways, and if it's a pound or two out at the end who cares!!

I would never do it or recommend anyone tries it alone, I would hate it with two, three for me is the sensible option, a driver a navigator and a slepper
