As a newbie I have to agree with Rob about making the Sunday legs a bit easier, the last control point was quite hard to find in the dark and at after almst 48 hours I'd have loved a service station instead. But I suppose it wasn't an easy agreement.
About us, we were able to be at Land's End in time, found a long queue and skip breakfast there but then took it too much easy and finally arrive in Knebworth one hour late.

If you want to load the .GPX into Google Maps you first must convert them to KML files and they will then load but show hundreds of additional routing points but they are not a lot of use. I have not found any way of loading them Google Maps / Android as a route & haven't had any success with the alternate android app I tried (OsmAmd) .
If you want to use Google Maps try converting the .CSV file to a .KML and that should create routes close to the road book that can be loaded into Google Maps. Can you let me know if you are successful? The file converter I used is given again below:-
https://www.gps-data-team.com/convert.php
The following link describes a procedure for loading the POI into Google for use as route
I had to convert all files to KML and then to GPX again and I was finally able to properly upload them on Google Maps - for viewing purpose only - and on OsmAnd.

I just received the route from Tim Bancroft, thanks a lot to Howard who did the dirty job!
I tried to upload the gpx files on Google Maps but the route isn't showed correctly and I see just a straight line connecting the way points. I will check it on a proper satnav.
-
Good idea, will do it!

Would it be possible to have the PDF (or similar) file of the road book? We'll fly to London the day before the RBRR and - as newbies - we'd love to take a look at it in advance.

Unless you need it for Google Maps on a smartphone but that's because Google maps is not a proper satnav and won't let you import routes in any form. At all. Not even from Google's own "my maps" service.
Try OsmAnd, it's free and allows to load and follow DIY routes.

Beware all ye who put your faith in my SatNav routes!
I will be preparing a route as usual so if you want to see if I can get you totally lost send me a PM.
(From Sunny Qatar, which is even further away than Italy..)
I will secretly use it only when my British co-driver needs to sleep.
PM sent, by the way, and thanks a lot.
(And hotter too, I suppose.)

I don't remember the name of the willing guy who used to translate the route into a satnav file and share it but I wonder if he plans to do it this year too.
It'd be really useful, especially for newbies (like me).

It's true that every form of Internet "place" has always suffered the presence of jerks and twats. However, the modern "social media" platforms (FB, Twitter, etc.) are measurably worse. Possibly because they're designed to be so easy that even the sort of brain-damaged quarter-wit that invites a punching in the local pub can use them.
Good point.
Due a lethal mix of improved interfaces and widespread internet connections (thanks smartphones!) in the past the internet was used mostly by IT guys and other tech people, nowadays everybody can be there. The more people, the more ***holes. It's just a matter of numbers.
Forums are a bit better only because they're old-fashioned and almost forgotten, still used by people who knew the internet when the "netiquette" was a thing. -

I think today's defibrillator debacle is indicative of the "Facebook experience"
I'm a fan of forums - way better than FB to manage discussions - but that kind of things have always happened on forums, newsgroups and every other kind of virtual place.
It's a people problem, not platform. -
Not sure you got the right file, jar files are meant to share Java dlls: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/394616/running-jar-file-on-windows
(yes, I came here for the free cider!) -

Overdrive Services would be my choice, they are pure specialists and will do upgrades to improve eg stronger springs etc
If you have ....ogni problemi, sono vicino questa compagnio, 20km da qui
I sent you a PM.

Thanks for your support, it's very appreciated!
I dropped a message to the suggested companies and waiting for a reply, I'll let you know.

Pete,
I brought the gearbox to a Triumph expert here, he tested it on the work bench and realized that after the solenoid engaged the main shaft get stuck. He checked the filter and possibly did to the test you suggested (didn't asked actually, but I quite trust him) but with no result. Then he suggested to send the od to an expert because he was afraid to not be able to work on it... and maybe he just didn't want to do further tries.
I'm aware that I'd need to send it to UK and I'm fine with this, up to now I've been suggested to contact Overdrive Repairs and Mike Papworth.

I recently bought a Spitfire Mk4 gearbox with D type overdrive to fit on my Spitfire Mk2, I have it tested and while the gearbox is in great conditions the OD get stuck. It's not the typical solenoid problem, it works, so I need to contact an expert who could fix it.
Do you know anyone to suggest?

BTW - If anyone has an old road book ( Wasn't there a re-print one year!) that I can look through to begin to get familiar - it would be appreciated as both Phil & I are newbies. Also if there is to be a reliance on SATNAV some recommendations as to which would be useful too -it needs to be relatively inexpensive, easy to load way-points & intuitive to use.
The cheapest option here: Sorry , link no longer available

Think of Tim and the other poor organisers who would have to keep track on all this and bring it into one unified amount of money collected.
No just use one platform
MUT
That's fine for me, I just thought that each team was responsible of its own raising and only at the end of the "campaign" gave the whole amount to the RBRR team. -
Facebook recently launched its fund raising tool, I don't know how it works but could be worth a look: https://www.facebook.com/fundraisers/
Just to ask, is it a mandatory to use to common platform or each team can collect money by its own? -

Looked at my profile on both this forum page and on the new site, I can't see where to add my phone number. Can anyone advise?

Thanks guys, I'd love to make the RBRR more popular amongst Italian Triumph enthusiasts, we already talked about it in the past and will do it again for sure since we'll be part of it. And possibly in 2020 there will be not only Italian entrants but Italian cars too.
-
Well, we did it!
I'm really glad to confirm that we'll be part of RBRR 2018 as Team BrIt (currently #26, but it seems that the numbering went crazy) thanks to our friend Laurence who will host us in his 2000 and will do all the preparation. Can't wait for October... -
Standard 1147cc engine.
I wasn't even look for an overdrive and I'm afraid the proper D type would be hard to find and expensive to buy. I just happen to have this J type in my box and wonder if I could use it but it probably requires lots of parts and work. -
Thank for your replies.
So, theoretically, could I adapt it to my Spitfire Mk2? I wonder how much work and how many parts I would need and if it's worth it. -
I found this overdrive in a spare box, could anybody guess which car is it for?

I'm a newbie and I can't compare with previous RBRRs but:
1. Please no more Turwestone, finding it and then driving back to Knebworth after 48 hours, with the sun light already gone an the traffic was awful.
2. I see the point of people suggesting to skip the stop in Dartmoor, a great scenery but a slow drive with no alternatives for latecomers. Personally I'd keep Bude and maybe find another way to Pimperne.
3. No complaints about number of cars, overcrowding was never an issue apart in Land's End.
4. We skipped the breakfast in LE due to the queue and had an additional stop at a Costa coffe in Penzance, in a shopping area (but still quite on early Sunday morning) with a parking place and a fuel station, 20 minutes from LE. Could it be a reasonable control stop?
5. I totally understand why Seaview was included in every RBRR, please go on with them because they're awesome!
6. Sweeping service sounds good to me, I know someone won't like it but I suspect they're the same guys who complained for satnavs and three-ppl-teams. I understand their will to keep the spirit of the event as much untouched as possible but it's hard to not keep up with the times.
7. I agree that motorway legs are boring but easy to drive and really helpful when late or tired, the one from Monmouth to Whitehouse just saved our RBRR.
Apart from what written above, I'm totally grateful to CT, Tim Bancroft and all the RBRR crew for the amazing work they did!
