Good evening,
So the RBRR took its toll on my already tired engine. I have a 72 MK2 2.5PI... well that's the body of the car, the engine on the other hand is an unknown entity. I'm pretty sure its an S engine, so sticking with what I have as my pockets aren't as deep as others what modifications can I start planning on?
I have heard a few things, however having never rebuilt an engine I have to confess I am not sure if there are other options available. What I have heard of is using a 348 s-head and a TR5 cam (as this could assist in increasing the ponies substantially).
Are there any other mods anyone has applied to their own engines that wont break the bank?

Apologies, I left early as the wife was home with a slightly unwell toddler and I was wanting to offer some relief.
Look forward to seeing you on the run

Awesome seeing everyone at the drivers briefing today. As mentioned if anyone is interested in joining the group is one that’s been resurrected from our 2021 event.
So… why is it there?
A central point of contact for required parts (in the event of a breakdown) tools etc. If you are in dire need of help you have a rather big team behind you.
To join just the QR code below, however if you prefer to use a link I have put that below it.
or use the link…

Where is the link? Having RBRR withdrawals, need to enter. Need to know I’m getting my biannual fix

The RBRR was 2250 minimum not including a good few 300 mile round trips to do bodywork and test drives... yeah I did well. So far this year I have managed zero miles, I have some mounts and a prop to change

I think I have a spare under my bench - whereabouts in the world are you?
Redditch just south of Birmingham

Hello all, I find myself viceless after whilst using my once beloved bench vice heard a crack and then it all went horribly wrong, and it’s as though I have had a limb removed. Does anyone have a good heavy-ish duty vice surplus to requirements, maybe in need of some tlc that they don’t need anymore?
Thanks in advance

I have absolutely zero complaints about the RBRR, even many many years ago when Lands End ran out of breakfast I didn't care, it's not about food or this year the worry of fuel shortages... but more about the comradery. What I really liked this year was the introduction of the Rally App Live, every time the screen turned yellow to signify approaching and arriving at a stop gave us a massive sense of achievement... I mean it worked really well. I should imagine much like with my co-driver this helped first timers when they got close to the check points.
The event as a whole is a resounding success with much praise owed to the organisers, if we the "people" can do anything to help in the future please let us know as this is "our" event.
My only suggestion is on the clothing front, I mentioned this on my initial conversation prior to the event to see if there were any changes etc to the team. My suggestion was for RBRR fleeces, even generic ones we can use at each event. I only suggested this as at a certain time the temperature drops our pretty epic polo shirts are all covered up.

I had created a WhatsApp group for the event which helped a few people out.

Don't forget to put relays on your head/spot lights if you havent already.
already done…

Eric needs a wash and the boot needs packing with relevant tools and spares, after which the headlights require a small amount of adjustment so as to not blind everyone. Stickers need to be put on the old motorway grade magnetic sheet and applied to the car.
Went for a test run a few days ago and found a vibration in the steering wheel, so checked and nipped up the front wheel bearings.
All in all Eric has had…
- Rebuilt half shafts (new uj’s)
- Rebuilt prop shaft
- Replacement coolant hoses and actual coolant… as the system was filled with mainly water.
- New speakers… you never know
- LED flood/spot lights
- Uprated standard headlight and main beam bulbs
- New go faster stickers
- And new period correct numberplates

All I have on mine is relays for the headlights and updated bulbs… ok so the spot / dogs are LED but those aren’t used all the time.

Hello everyone. As the RBRR is just around the corner a post I spotted gave me an idea. I’m looking to set up a WhatsApp group for all the big six’s in the event, the aim of which will be to share knowledge, be able to assist each other with parts etc in the event. What does everyone think?
Let’s see if this works, I have created a group and now have a link which anyone with a big six can use to join.

I will be masked up, its simply not worth the risk.
Don't be a dick anyone.

In this case both BP and ExxonMobil put out a press release on the subject, see me post earlier, so I would assume some truth in the matter.
As for panic buying, it makes matters worse of course. Thousands of people who normally drive around with 1/2 a tank then add £10s worth when the light comes on suddenly go and fill to the brim and keep topping it up . . .
It happened here at the start of Covid, fortunately not for long.

Been there, done that.
It's a weird feeling of macho pride, guilt and panic to find a good second hand vice!
Totally agree. Thing is I was only pressing a uj into the prop shaft… if it was something else I would have found myself riding an epic man wave

Off to Pirtek this afternoon to get hoses for the oil cooler fitment (the ones I had are too long), then I need to replace the leaky top hose, check everything's tightened up right (some UJ bolts managed to work loose for the MOT a couple of years back and one of the manifold clamps fell off on holiday recently), check / refill the diff oil, adjust the handbrake... drive it to Duxford, then Gaydon, then to the Lakes with the Cambridge group. Then fix anything that breaks on those trips.
Lets hope its nothing serious that lets go on your trips and its just the basic running repairs.

Oh yes, also need to replace all the cooling system hoses... and fluids, Im halfway there, full kit in hand so can say goodbye to the perished pipes.

Possibly. If so it's likely from a Dolomite but I think they're the same. I'll have a look.
Thank you, I shall take measurements later so we can compare to see if it would fit etc
