I bought some junk from Mr RetroLeads on eBay.

Hi,
The graph should explain why you should drive the lights from the Alternator/Generator output. When the engine is not running, potential Luminous flux will be less than before.Cheers,

Given that it would appear that large numbers of classic car drivers have issues and problems with ethanol in petrol, me included in the form of emulsified deposits in carbs and pinholes in petrol tanks I take it you can prove your absolute with scientific reports, and links to same? If not, to reply in a similar tone to your last post. Zip it.
Hi,
Suggest you first stop rainwater getting into your fuel tank as E10 does not "pull" water from the air.
Second, repair the damage the water has caused.
Third, add Ethanol to your fuel tank to enable any water in the tank to be removed.
You could add "Dry Fuel", but ethanol or E10 is cheaper.Does that make sense to you?
Cheers,
Iain. -

Hi,
nobody likes a F- (Grade).
You clearly deserve it.

Give me 4* back, more mpg, grow food not 'petrol'.
Modern ethanol (E5, E10, E the future) are all hygroscopic and scavenge water from the atmosphere, therefore, because petrol floats on water the scavenged water gets in the fuel line or makes pin holes in steel petrol tanks. The higher the E number, the more water. A reason why modern car manufacturers offer limited guarantees on fuel systems?
Hi,
All wrong.
F- for saying this.Cheers,

Hi,
Ethanol or E5/E10/E85 does not "suck" water out of the air. It's a myth that will not go away.
Ethanol fortified fuel will enable water that has got into fuel to be safely "burnt" in the fuel & not separate out causing corrosion.
Cheers,
Iain.

Id suggest the Mikuni HSR45 carbs over the EFI and SUs
Hi,
Free to have opinion.
Why do you say this? How many HSR45's are you suggesting & with what manifold?Cheers,

Hi,
With a 2.5EFI, I have had many 3.63 diffs go gender neutral poof.
Even 3.27 is not numerically low enough for me. Going to fit taller tyres on back to lower RMP cruise speed.
If I want to move quick I switch off OD or change down. Over 70 in 3rd is available.
1st is plenty numerically high enough to smoke tyres with ATB diff & 215's. -

Hi,
Glang, advocating dipping the clutch is wrong on a Spitfire or GT6. If I followed your advice I doubt I would still be using an O/D. Sorry.
O/D on a GT6 is not so good as O/D 3rd = 4th.
GL5 for manual transmission is preferred.
I prefer O/D selection on gearstick for faster changes. Additional on steering wheel sounds a bonus.Cheers,
IainPS. Good to see site speed is back.
Apologies Glang.
Meant Nang!

Hi - Has any of you come across spring-loaded pushrod tube replacements for a Triumph Herald 1200 saloon?
The one that takes up the slack?

Buy a Gunson trakrite for toe settings. Better than some shop guessing it.
Make sure the trunnionless vertical links are very secure on the wishbone.Cheers,
Iain.

Find a GL5 that is manual synchromesh approved.
Stop the no GL5 for manual transmission myth. -

Thanks Rob. That's interesting asim sure mine is measuring a lot more.
I will get a potentiometer and set it to 70 ohms and see where the dial reads.

Make sure your POT can handle the current. Or Pooof.

If you have a true high oil pressure when hot, I would look at lowering the "Weight" of oil used as suspect when started a lot of the oil never makes it around the engine.
I have never detected any fuel in my oil when changed. My car uses a lot of fuel.
Wish it did go in the oil. Might condition the seals & keep it topped up.Cheers,
Iain.

TR7 Wipers not switching off

Hi,
the wiper switch can cause problems if it's a cheap replacement that has worn out. I have problems with the end-float the cheaper switches will not tolerate.
I have had to disconnect the low-speed and swap with the high-speed brush to bypass my park switch.
A good quality park switch is sold by Mini Sport UK. About £17 delivered.

The biggest problem I have with the park switch is:
How do you fit it without breaking it? What is the forgotten method?
