Will only be running around 130hp and 160nm so not a lot of power, just wanted something better than currently on the car as it does have a tendency to wash out and under steer a lot.

Was looking at Toyo T1-Rs but having just had a drive shaft snap and having to shell out £150 for a new one the purse strings are a bit tight now, that's where the Nankangs came in as they looked like a decent budget sport tyre.

Just ordered 4 so fingers crossed they're alright. :)

Mr Rosso, unfortunately couldn't find any Yoko's in my size as they seem to get a good write up.

Getting some wheels refurbished and need to get some tyres before the end of the week.

Anyone ever used these?

When I had my Spitfire I looked for quite a while without anything turning up in the correct PCD.

4 spoke are easier to get in this size but 5 spoke are few and far between.

I would probably buy new 15x6 from Revolution themselves.

Thanks, it was out of interest mainly. It seems most go down the T9 route rather than the Supra box, in fact of the top of my head it's only yourself and the other Nick I can think that use them.

I thought as much regarding the later Supra box.

What made you choose the W58 over a Type 9? Just out of interest, as, from what I've heard, sourcing of parts is more difficult than the Type 9.

Also, does anyone know if it's possible to fit a 5 speed Supra box would it be possible to fit the 6 speed V160 verision from the later twin turbo Supra? I'm guessing not seeing as no one seems to have done it.

They refurbed the twin SUs from my Spitfire. Did a fantastic job and were very friendly to talk to.

Offered lots of advice on refitting and tuning, also asked about the tuning of the car to match the needles and springs.

Full rebuild was £160+VAT IIRC.

Mmm, I agree, suspect a blow out is more likely.

Personally I do like the look if not done to extremes like in the picture.

Most run 155 tyres on 8j wheels with lots of camber as well. Can't imagine being the nicest things to drive.

Legality I don't know tbh. They got a lot of pulls usually for tinted front windows, no front plates etc. Not sure whether plod have ever commented on the wheel/tyres.

Clive, drive? a car are you mad? They just cruise around slowly dodging pot holes most of the time. ;)

If you think that is stretched you should see what some of my mates run on their 'stanced' cars.

Before going for a start up turn over by hand with the spark plugs out, it'll make it easier as there'll be less compression on the engine.

Once this is done, stick them back in and spin it over on the starter with the lead from the coil to the dizzy disconnected to get the oil pressure up, have you got an oil pressure gauge? It may be worth rigging one up temporarily.

Then once you've done all your checks and everything seems ok, reconnected everything and go for a start up with your fingers crossed.

Dad's last Spitfire had stainless braided pipe connecting the float bowls.



Didn't particularly like it because it hung down too far for my liking.

Also you can't see the condition of the rubber underneath.

Before stripping the bonnet of paint it sounds like you need to address the wheel arches.

I wouldn't bother with fibreglass items as they're usually a pig to fit from what I've heard.

You can buy proper replacement panels,  TD Fitchetts springs to mind, give them a call.

Alternatively if your bonnet is that bad, buy a new bonnet? There's a few on eBay at the moment:

Are you going to be painting the car yourself? If not then I would, for the time being at least, simple attack the rusty areas; stripping them of paint, taking out rusty metal and letting new in and a few coats of primer will keep the worst at bay.

I agree with the above comments, clear the garage and get it inside! Otherwise all your hard work repairing the rusty bits won't stay good for long with our winters!

I fitted a new rear spring on the Spitfire last October time, and the bloody thing never settled down (much).

If I had of been keeping it I would of fitted an inch spacer block to lower it a bit.

You can sort of see here (picture taken a year later!) the positive camber I still had.



I bought the spring and two new shocks from Abingdon MG (I know, I know) they were a pleasure to deal with and a good price too.

Repack the silencers, should quieten it down a bit.
