  1. That's a far better price than I imagined, thanks. Going to fit new valves myself, with double springs in case I do change the cam. How do you mean by correct exhaust valves..? Are they a different size due to the inserts? Looking forward to the satisfaction from doing it myself (for the first time!)
    Thanks.

  2. Got the head off today. Got flat top pistons, marked as +30thou. Bores are perfect, which makes me think it hadn't done many hours since the last rebuild. (I found it sitting on a driveway for ten years). Unfortunately I can't see any valve inserts for unleaded, which suprises me, if they had the other work done.. Roughly how much should I budget for the head work?
As for the cam, logic says I should see how it goes first, before playing about with it. Just while it's all in pieces... ;)

  3. Hmmm... Thanks for that. (I think..)
Was going to get the studs off tomorrow. Ran out of daylight today. Have been thinking about a different cam. Just had my mind made up.
Is the head gasket the same though..? Just for when I come to ordering.
    Thanks.

  4. In the process of "persuading" the cylinder head off my 1971 mk3 gt6, in order to see if I already have hardened valve inserts. Happened to look at the engine number, which is ME24677HE. My manual says gt6 mk3 engines should start KE. Interested to know what I actually have..?!!

  5. Thanks. I'm fully expecting to have to do floors/sills etc, as part of an ongoing restoration/build. Did message that guy on ebay, but he needs it collected immediately. I would have to arrange a trailer etc between work shifts... Just trying to get an idea of how much I need to bash the overtime..!

  7. :) Good day today. Got the back end on, including the very nice cv conversion. Need to set the end float though. The 0.141original shims are too small. Tightened right up on the bearings...
Got the front corners on too, but can someone clarify the order the v/link, disc shield etc go on please..? Just can't make it all go together neatly... :-/

  8. Well I thought I would finally get a nice relaxing day pottering in the garage..
Fitting the diff to the replacement chassis, the front mounting points come up about 1/2" short. (Towards the rear). The only way I can see round this is to turn the mounting plate round, so the mounts curve forwards, ( which is how it's shown in the Haynes manual). Obviously have to remove the front flange first. Haynes manual doesn't cover this. Assuming the bearings & shims are in good order, are there any bits I should order, so I can complete in one go...?

  9. Chassis is still completely stripped. Been painted & sealed. Came to a bit of a stop for a couple of months, while I hammered the overtime, so I could put a couple of big orders in with Canleys. Should hopefully be able to get a wheel on each corner within the next month...  :)
Sold the gt6 body tub on. Think the guy wanted the whole thing just for the webasto roof. Another overtime binge after Christmas should put me in a position to look for a Spitfire body in earnest.
Will try to load pics up, but not got a pc, & it keeps saying files too large...

  10. Quick question... Going to start building up my gt6 chassis in a couple of weeks. Have splashed out on a Canley CV conversion (lots of overtime..). Do I still need to get the  brackets to attach the dampers to the chassis, or is there no longer a clearance issue, ie, can I attach them straight to the chassis, non rotoflex style..?
    Many thanks.
