  1. Getting to the stage to paint/finish these areas....

On original valences the "bumpers" are made out of rubber and coloured white.

On these fibreglass ones that I have, the "bumpers" are bolted onto the fibreglass...look like they are made from aluminium.

Mine are currently painted white (looks like Dulux gloss😅)

Can anyone advise on what they have done or know what should be done please?

  2. In re-assembling the doors. I have a fully operational nearside Qtrlt window, but the offside is in pieces, and I am missing the spacer, spring, nut and washer.

On the Canley website, the spacer and spring are no longer available, can anyone here offer any alternatoves please?

  3. Hi All,

Checking with the Canley Classics various diagrams, the rear over riders havent changed over the models and are the same on the Vitesse.

So I ask has anyone got a "functional" pair of overiders that they are willing to sell please. Heavy corrosion to be avoided, but a patina of pitting acceptable.

    Thanks Alan

  4. Thanks Glan,

Now having another look underneath have found positions E & F, E was ok, but F is duffed again by a COACH BOLT!

Using a light and a mirror, I can look into the chassis cavity and see a nut securing the coach bolt. Have cut into the bolt head so i can loosen it with a scredriver and hammer, but will try to remove it and replace with a bolt and the plate(with captive nut) as shown!

    Happy days!

  5. Hi All,

Am having to make a small alteration to the rear tub of my convertible as when assembled (not by me),,,but by a bit of a bodger,  the space to the doors is too tight.

As said in the title of this thread (excuse the pun), I am trying to identify where all the bolts are lurking that i need to loosen to knock bad the tub a tad or two!

I have undone the bolts across the floor where the front meets the back, in the boot I have found the bolts to the angled boot outriggers. I have found 2 bolts over the diff and I believe I need to unbolt the 2 outer seat belt mounting rings.

I believe there may be some bolts through the edge of the floor tub passing through the outriggers?

Anyone that can advise, please help.

    Cheers Alan

  6. Hi Glang,

Couldnt download the manual! but all is clear from the diagrams youve uploaded, apart from on the Choke connection, what is the item marked F please? I'm guessing it may be a support metal strap between the Chocke mounting point and the bulkhead?

If so I can make one up to suit.

  7. Please can ayone throw any advise on how the centre section of a 13/60 is held in place please?

So once the veneered front is attached to the carcass, the small oval type black trim fits to the front with the small veneer piece, but how is this secured?

The 5 holes in the panel from left to right are : heat control, air distribution, fan switch, master light switch and choke.

I have a u shaped bracket ewith a hole in the centre...I;m guessing i need 2 of these, but to which of the controls do the fit to the back of?

The Canley diagram lends you to believe its on the light switch, but thats obviously wrong. I have the heat control switch and this doesnt work either!

  8. Good afternooon all...

Much achieved on the Herald this afternoon...butv once again a problem needs solving.

    Please see image below

As you can see new pump fitted..no connecting pipes on yet, but as you can see the outlet pipe is heading directly into the block.

So before I cause myself more problems, can I undo the screw on the top and rotate the body round so to access the pipe away from the engine?

    Thanks for the tips

  9. Hi...more problems...In other posts we have discovered I have a spitfire mk111 engine...I have now installed the heater as per picture and ordered a new heater valve from Rimmers at the weekend. The one I have received is as per their catalog and bears no relation to the heater I have.

All i want to achieve here is functionability...not originality...so :

Can anyone advise me what/where this heater came from....which type of valve would mount on the plate ringed in yellow, and pipes from what car would connect to the inlet and outlet pipes as ringed in blue.

Any suggestions would be of help

  10. That all for your comments and putting me on the right track.....I cant believe I overlooked the float chambers, which gives you the   answer in itself!......MMM lucky me I now have bought a fuel pump!...just another item missing from this engine.

I live in the Swindon area, anyone local to me with a Spitfire engine set up I could visit and eyeball other problems I still have?

For example.. you can just see from my image that I am missing the metal water pipe that runs under the manifolds to the water housing. But according to the Canley diagrams, there are 2 variants of the pipe, both have a 90 degree turn but one has an additional outlet? I am also missing the union that connects said pipe to the housing.

Going to the Autojumble next weekend, so adding bits to my list wont do any harm

  11. Totally confused...

In my picture, the 2 black pipes are for fuel, they say so on them), they go to a y piece...then centrally off to the pump.

If I connect up the 2 circled pipes and run the it round to the single circled pipe, where does the resulting pipe go to please?

  12. Hi, am getting nearer to full assembly and then car start up.

Although my car is a 13/60 herald it has aspitfire engine (mk3) with twin carbs

everything was disassembled when i got it, so lots of time have no points to refer to.

Please see picture from my phone, that I have edited and drawn 3 rings around 3 pipes that are bare coming out of the carbs.

As you can see, they are not for fuel, which is supplied centrally as you can see.

Normaly when I upload a picture it ends up inverted...lets see😁

  13. Hi All,

About to assemble the water pump housing and pump. checking on fan belt alignment, the pump I have, may appear to be the incorrect one.

Neither the housing or the pump was attached to my vehicle when bought.

The engine I have has been identified as a Spitfire mk 3 ...

    Engine number is FD87315HE

Should i be fitting the GWP 128 or the GWP 200?

As usual all help much appreciated!

  14. Hi all,

Thanks for your comments....upon reflection I have 8 wires in total to pass through grommet/grommets, and the choke grommet would become too crowded.

The last comment made to use the unused painted over small grommet (i would replace it) below the choke aperture could take half the wires and so just drill a new hole to take the remainder. the smaller hole mentioned, appears to be unused...I have checked several photos of bulkheads etc...

Thanks again for steering me in the right direction (awful pun) and hope all have a great Xmas.

  15. Hello all,

Am in the process of fitting a fuse box to my Herald, and have found suitable space next to the heater box. I was about to drill an 1/2" hole to accomodate a grommet and feed the wires through the bulkhead...but I noticed close by a 1" diameter hole through the bulkhead which I have identified for the choke cable.

Is there any reason why i cant share this large grommet to take my wires too ?

Appreciate any advice...photo of bulkhead area attached...(with my new fusebox 😇😇)...please rotate image...Grrrr doesnt matter how i save it...still shows upside down!
