  1. Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions for a wiring diagram, the closest I got was an Omalley one online. However, this is still not very accurate, so I am still unable to trace another electrical problem I have with my 1979 -1500 spitfire. The brake warning light comes on with the ignition, but the oil pressure warning light does not illuminate. I have disconnected the pressure switch and put the wiring directly to earth, I have changed the bulb but neither has cured the problem. The wiring is White centre and Black/Purple outside on the warning light and Brown/White centre with 2 Black/Purples to the outside on the oil light. I can get continuity on all of these wires but if I remove the bulb in the oil light the brake warning light goes out. I guess these lights are interconnected but I do not know how. Should there be a special bulb in the oil light, there seems to be an unusual one in the brake warning light or could the PDWA switch be causing these problems I do know how that works or how to test it. Any electrical guru's out there with the answers please. Thanks
  2. Hi Rob All sorted bad connection on one of the looms. Cleaned them all to be sure Thanks. Ron
  3. Thanks I will have a look.
  4. Thanks Wendy I will have a look.
  5. Thanks for the reply. Its definitely the middle fuse thats dead, no power no either side. I have no instrument lights which I guess are fed from the reds. This happened once before and by cleaning all the connectors I thought I had cured it, once the fuse was live the horns started working. It would appear I have other problems now.
  6. Hi Does anyone have a wiring diagram for a 1979 Spitfire, my Haynes manual does not match my wiring. The problem I have is no 12 volt supply on the middle fuse so no horn or anything attached to this fuse. There are two Green/Red wires on the in side and two red on the other. Has anyone else had experience of this, or know where the Green/Red wires are fed from. Thanks

Thanks for the info, I have ordered a new mechanical pump. I thought I had cured the problem but its started again in the last few days.

    Spitfire Carb problem

Ok thanks, I have had rubber in valve, a dodgy valve and have changed float. Next thing to try would be pump although I think its the original mechanical one.
  9. I am new to Triumph ownership having recently purchased a 1979 Spitfire 1500. I have not used it yet as I have a carburation problem in as much as the front SU HS4 carb seeps petrol into the jet which then runs out the air filter when the engine is not running. I have changed the float, needle valve and jet and set the float height. The breather pipes are clear and the carb is clean. Is there anybody on the forum who has experienced this problem or may have an answer please.
