Thanks everyone. Looks like a simple job will turn into something more complicated so for now I’ll live with the old knob, original switch and my shortened stick!

I’m looking for advice for my 1500 Spitfire I’m going to swap my non overdrive gearbox for an overdrive one. While I’m at it I thought I’d replace the well worn old gear knob and switch. I can’t see how the old one comes off. Lots of talk about slotted rings above and a chrome ring below which my knob doesn’t have(see photos). Has this been glued on do you think? maybe I should not bother replacing it with a shiny new one. Any ideas welcome
