Are you sure it's not a fault with your hose ? or a sealing washer That air has to be coming from somewhere.

Fair enough. I still don't see anywhere that says don't use the clutch .I only remember the bent splines in my Rapier. so I'll keep doing it my way. Thanks. Tony.

Don't know if its been mentioned, I haven't read all posts. I ALWAYS use the clutch when engaging/disengaging overdrive. I do this as I once owned a Sunbeam Rapier which had a bad oil leak. .End story gearbox main shaft badly twisted on the splines which I reckon was caused by the previous owner not using the clutch( I know because he took me for a drive before I bought it ) and the shock loading was too much.

The standard gauge thread is 3/8 x28tpi.Taps are available. Easy if you have access to a lathe..

Unfortunately won't work in countries outside of UK.

My initial thought would be a faulty master cylinder.
New seals don't always fix them. I recently had mine resleeved and rekitted. Back to normal now.

It happens in New Zealand too. God knows how many drivers (?) run around in semi darkness or worse with only parking lights on. This is illegal here.

For more years that I care to remember I've always used a smear of grease on head gaskets. Not sure that it's necessary but followed my late fathers advice and never had any failures.

Why does everyone think they know better than the original engineers in trying to ' improve' a good existing design. If you want more power buy a bigger car.🤬

You probably don't want to hear this, but you may need to remove the frost plugs and to poke round in behind them to remove all the rubbish... I had to do this with my 2500 block. Mind you it was easier for me as I had the motor out.

The 1/2" pipe the the hoses connect to has a 1/4" hole where the short tee piece is welded on. It takes little sludge at this point to block circulation.

Sorry no, as I understand it , no panel parts are interchangable.

In my experience the problems with the overdrive are normally the electrics and hydraulics. Electrics normally wiring, earths and terminals. Hydraulic faults are usually caused by worn and dried out O rings.
This is for J types. A types I have no knowledge of.

It seems that all else has failed, so how about rigging a temporary fuel tank, a 2gallon plastic container would do, gravity fed bypassing the fuel tank. I've known a bit of rubbish in the fuel tank to temporarily block the outlet before today.. At the very least you'll know its not the problem !

I think Australia were making good ones recently. Have a look at Greg Tunstell's site.

I think that your "Lucas" coils are all chinese these days. I've kept all my old real Lucas coils I've taken off wrecks etc. I have no faith in modern repro parts.

I have O/D in my 2500.. Personally, I use it as a 5th gear. i.e. disconnect it with the switch when changing down and only engage it when I 'm going fast enough to need "5th gear" . But that's me , others have their own methods. As long as the inhibitor switch is working and you can't engage it in reverse you should be fine.

Would not a decent wheel alignment company have the specs? Got my Spitfire done over here a couple of years ago. The people I used had the factory specs.

I found that mine just piddled out. I replaced the pump with a new aftermarket one and had a really good set up.without touching the nozzles.

My money is on the master cylinder. Had similar problems with my 2500.

I think you problem is too high fuel pump pressure. This has been noticed previously. What is wrong with the old pump ?
