Location is ten minutes off Jct 8, M11 (Stansted Airport).
OK, so it turns out that the engine was stored outside but undercover. However, at some point, the tarp had blown off and not replaced so there's a lot of surface debris on the engine.
As you can see from the photos, there's a rust hole in the sump. This was literally caused by the sump rusting while the engine was sat in place on the ground, because when it was moved (a couple of months ago) oil flooded out!
The mud, visible in the inlet pipes, was from the engine toppling over when my Dad tried to move the engine on his own (he's in his seventies but thinks he's 17 still - which is great!)
I popped the oil filler cap off and photographed it. I'll be honest, it doesn't look great in there. It's rusty. Surface rust from where the engine's been sat for years (possibly decades).
I've been told the engine's from a '72 car and has done over 100k. It's also lost compression on one cylinder (cause unknown) which was why it was originally removed from the car.
I imagine, from Ted's reply (above), that if there's any value to anyone in this engine it probably comes from the injection kit that's on it (as it's a MK2 engine, not MK1, and in a bit of a state).
That said, I've no idea of its value (if anything) and neither does my Dad. So he's open to offers, if it's of use to anyone.
If the lump's worthless, but the injection kit's worth something, I'd probably consider removing it from the lump and selling it separate (so it opens it up to anyone who doesn't want the entire engine or can't pick it up)
You can email me any questions / offers at: triumph at moo dot digital (I can't seem to get notifications of any replies on triumph.org.uk)
