  1. Hi Guys...still stuck on this Have put the flat ends to the front, on the inside of the mounting bolt, if on the outside, bonnet couldnt shut!, but still way out of line. I did wonder if the bracket I was trying to mount to was "bent", but I have fitted the bonnet straps to these brackets and they line up perfectly with the inner wheel arches as shown in pic one....so the brackets are correct as fitted. I have uploaded 2 images and circled points of interest, [pic 2 shows the discrepancy. as a fix, can I reshape the angle on the end of the adjuster so it meets correctly?? Any help appreciated...
  2. Hi, My wiring diagram for a 13/60 herald shows a brown/blue wire on position 1 of the ignition switch?
  3. Ok so moving along now with with growing confidence that if a wire has been fiddled with, inevitably it will change colour!! So if I'm correct, there is a thick bron and blue wire that is the feed to the ignition switch, leaving a white & red wire from the switch to the solenoid, and a bunch of 4 white wires feeding to various circuits. My plan is to put an inline fuse on the brown/blue wire to the ignition switch, can anyone advise me what amperage should my fuse be please? KR Alan
  4. More help please...am about to install the 2 bonnet adjuster rods from the bonnet mounts on the chassis to the mounting point on top of the suspension "towers". I thought this would be self evident...but dont seem to line up. One end of the adjuster rod is flat, the other end is at an angle, and despite trying each way round, I still cannot make them line up to their mounting points. Any ideas? KR Alan
  5. Starting the engine re assembly of my basket case 13/60 herald. I now notice there is not a fuel pump attached! The possible problem is, my engine has been declared by Gaydon, that it is from a Spitfire and not the original. I have read/seen from a utube clip, that the Herald and the Spitfire pumps are not the same...can anyone clarify please. Engine number is FD87315HE As usual all help much appreciated! Alan
  6. Thanks to all I met at the NEC this weekend, looking at fully built cars and talkingb to those that know was extremely helpful. HOWEVER,,,now coming to the end of electrical investigations on my Herald, I came across thwe greatest no no of all. Having identified all under the bonnet wiring, I was still missing a wire from the ignition to the coil. This i identified as a white wire which passes through the flasher unit. Having found both whites (1 in to the flasher and 1 out) thw white wire to the coil dissappeared ! After cutting into more underbonnet loom, I filnd a bullet connector from the missing libve white wire onto a BLACK wire!!! What a plonker...any colour but black!! I feel relieved I found it before earthing the blacks and adding a battery! Once my new stock of bullets and connectors arrive, I can make sure all circuits are safe and not going to short out, I will add a battery and move onto re-assembling the engine to re-commission a start up (comp test first)....
  7. Hi all, Im expecting this to be long and drawn out! So my car came as a non runner, and now its time to tackle the tangle of electrics even before I consider adding a battery! Out of the distributor is connected a blue and green wire...my diagram says it should be white and red! I'm guessing regardless, this should go to the coil?(not fitted) In the dynamo plug I have a single thick brown wire, which is quite lengthy but has no connector on the end and is loose in the engine bay. Diagram shows 2 wires one should be brown and yellow and the other brown and green! I have a thick brown wire coming out of the loom which passes from the inside through the bulkhead behind the battery tray. this wire is added to the positive battery terminal. What and why please as diagram doesnot show any additional wires to the battery pos terminal,. I have a thick red and white wire coming out of same loom but unconnected..should this go to the starter solenoid? I'm going to have a lie down now!
  8. A new one with rubber seal came with the car, as I am about to install the heater mechanism demister and pipes, thought I would get this sorted first. From what I can glean from the Haynes manual, 4 screws are fitted from inside the engine bay, the rest from inside the body. As I have no screws/bolts etc, can some please guide me on what should be used? Are they large self tapping screws with spire nuts clipped over the mounting holes? Thanks and regards Alan
  9. More queries..... so I tested the motor & system whilst installed...no movement or noise from the motor. Disconnected and removed motor and did bench test...motor works Hurray!...more cleaning up re-greasing necessary. Removed the wheelboxes linkage/cable drive etc....all locked up no movement. Undid the wheelbox covers and freed off the gears from old grease, re assembled and they work. Re connected the motor on the bench and again all working! So all I need is 2 x 8 sided wheelbox nuts to refit to the car. So here is the query, I have the approx 1" long bushes that fvit onto the wheelboxes on the inside of the car, but there was nothing to fit over the drives on the ouitside apart from the chrome nut. Canley Classice diagram shows a thin type bush/washer, but says no longer available.....what have others fitted instead please. I really dont want to fit the nuts straight to my freshly painted masterpiece!🙂 Would appreciate your comments.... KR Alan
  10. Ha ha ha...yes especially as there are 2 demisters and only one bracket😁
  11. Whilst the dashboard is out and I'm prepping the area around the windscreeen for paint, can anyone identify what this body section does? and what the hole might be for in the centre? I havent found a diagram anywhere to identify this. Apologies for poor photo (bad lighting) but red pointer shows the "bit" I'm referring to. Thanks Alan
  12. I've seen some of what i'm referring to here already...but my question in 2 parts is: ....now that I'm going to install an alternator over a dynamo, I believe the voltage regulator is now redundant? Therefore having the space on the bulkhead, is it advisable to replace it with a fuse box? Maybe this is overkill as these cars have survived without a fusebox for 50+ years🙂 Would appreciate your comments
  13. I have a project Herald convertible I have started to renovate...re assemble. Have spent much time tracking down the missing parts,,,mostly sorted now, but most of nuts & bolts have been removed and lost by the previous owner. I have tracked down the 3 countersunk screws that hold the door lock in place in the door through Canley, but they state they are no longer available. However they do quote them as No10 UNF c/sunk. I have measured one (from the other door) and its overall 1/2" long. Can anyone suggest an independent screw/bolt/nut supplier please? KR Alan
  14. Hi, can anyone advise me please what is the difference between the early car door handles and those on the later cars? Is this a stupid question in that there isnt any difference? I am aware that that only the driver's door has a lock in the push button! Am looking to buy as I dont have any right now! KR Alan
  15. IANI...brilliant...thanks very much!
  16. Bad penny etc.... so as I progress in obtaining missing parts for my Herald 13/60, I have now come across a problem...no doubt not to be the last! My steering column waggles around like a flag in the wind, with no upper or lower clamp. The upper clamp on Canleys part diagram show 3 things the 2 parts of the clamp, plus a spring clip. Can anyone advise the importance of the spring clip...what it does and what can I replace it with? All three parts are no longer available, Ebay has a suitable clamp but no spring..... hence the question. As always would appreciate any help. KR Alan
  17. Thanks Clive for your help. kr Alan
  18. Hi, As a new member and new to my box of bits called a Triumph Herald by some.... is there a known autojumble that takes place for Triumphs please? I am located in Wiltshire. Thanks in advance for your help. kr Alan
  19. "The second piece is part of a router guide fence - nothing to do with a Triumph." Ha ha ha....its amaing what might turn up in a box of bits! Thanks for letting me know,,,this is one piece I can now disregard.
  20. Then the other bit is as follows...I have no clue about this!
  21. So going through bits and pieces and have 2 unidentiied parts....the first I thought I had it sorted..looked on the bonnet diagram on Rimmers to be a strengthener part for behind then grill. but after offering it up to behind the front panel..it makes no sense as the holes on this bit are on the horizontal and the front panel/grill are on the vertical pictures follow:
  22. Hi Adrian, I would be interested in both the complete headlamp assemblies, plus also both indicator/sidelight assemblies if you are happy to dismantle. What kind of price would you co0nsider ,,,plus postage? KR Alan
