  1. With the rear being complete it is time to start on the front. 4 hours in the sun saw new brake discs, pads and callipers, new shock absorbers and flexible brake hose. Tomorrow will see the same happen to the passenger side.....
  2. Chassis painted top and bottom. Pinion oil seal replaced. Time to put the rear end back on so I can get on with the front brakes and shocks....
  3. New rear shock absorbers on, brake drums cleaned, chassis half painted......a good mornings work!
  4. Chassis work is now all done. All rusty bits have been replaced and I would now happily jack the car up! Had a few bits left over if any one needs some... 🙂
  5. Off with the old and on with the new...... A little plating needed on the bottom of the chassis just in front of the rear wheel and then it will be ready for a clean and paint.
  6. Looks like some one has been here before me 😁 At least I only need to replace the drivers side.....
  7. Looks like I need some rear boot outriggers.... At least I can weld up all the holes while the rear tub is off. Ps... Rear tub is now loose so can be removed when I get some help tomorrow.
  8. Oh oh...... The rear tub on my Herald was a little close to the front tub and so the door kept catching. So I thought I would loosen the bolts up and move the rear a little backwards just to give a little more room. I jacked the rear up were two parts of the chassis meet next to the rear wheel. I was just wondering where to put my axle stands when the car fell sideways as the jack sunk into the chassis! Nothing is as simple as you think is it? Looks like the rear tub is coming off for chassis repairs.........
  9. Today's fun and games.... Replace the rotten rubber. Gearbox mountings replaced. Anti roll bar mountings and bushes replaced and the anti roll bar cleaned and painted. Tomorrow is the steering bellows.....
  10. I returned to the clutch bleeding as it was hard to get the car into gear. Removing the transmission tunnel made the job a lot easier! Also gave me a chance to straighten out the speedometer cable as someone had cross threaded the screw on end....
  11. Remember when I said a new one might be turning up...... Meet Rum and Suzi! Rum is ours and Suzi is my sister in laws...... Rum is the brown Lab....
  12. Cleaned the Stromberg carb today. The choke plate was bent and not increasing the idle speed and I needed a new O ring for the jet tube. Fortunately I am a scuba diver and have lots of O rings in many different sizes 🙂 There was also a floaty bit of black gasket in the float chamber which could explain the no fuel in the carb random problem! Anyway, now it starts and runs and even got to operating temp. Next job.......
  13. Fitted a new clutch master cylinder and hydraulic line to the slave.... First time it has moved under its own power in over 8 years!
  14. This picture was from a few years ago and we only have Lola the black lab left now......although a new chocolate may be turning up in a few weeks 🙂
  15. The Herald used to belong to my wife, she obtained it in 2012 but gave it to her brother in 2014 as she didn't use it a lot. Now that we are on the cusp of retirement it is time to take the car back and do a little restoration....... It's a 1968 13/60 with a Vitesse bonnet. The chassis is in good condition, the engine starts at the turn of a key but the clutch and brakes don't work. The doors also have a line of rust along the bottom, the bonnet could do with a little welding along the front and it will need paint all over. So, once the brake and clutch master cylinders have been swapped I may have a running, driving project on my hands 🙂 The speedo says it has done 7328 miles! We have MOT's back to 2006 when it had done 4000 miles so who knows........
